Hwbot's Rookie Rumble is an ongoing series of competitions. It is for new hwbot members only.

New rounds of rookie rumble are under way. Post up if you want any guidance on improving your scores.

If you are new and have an Intel CPU: http://hwbot.org/competition/rookie_rumble_9
The Rookie Rumble Cup is here to help you get familiar with overclocking at HWBOT. The competition is limited to rookie overclockers just like you. That means you will not have to deal with the experienced overclockers just yet. The competition is typical for HWBOT. There are three stages, each with the same hardware limitations but featuring a different benchmark. The three benchmarks are: XTU, HWBOT Prime, and SuperPI 1M. You can gather points by submitting in each of the three stages. The better the result, the more points you will obtain. And eventually the more points, they higher you'll rank!

There is also a seperate competition for AMD owners: http://hwbot.org/competition/rookie_rumble_amd_6/

There are three stages, each with the same hardware limitations but featuring a different benchmark. The three benchmarks are: CPU Frequency (% OC), HWBOT Prime, and MaxxMem Read Bandwidth. You can gather points by submitting in each of the three stages. The better the result, the more points you will obtain. And eventually the more points, they higher you'll rank! Note that for the two multi-threaded benchmarks we rank you by the score per core count. So even single core owners can compete.

If you are interested in competing in the Rookie Rumble post here for any help or tips.

Hello,

I'm in the RR on HWbot and would love to to get some tips on improving my benching scores. I don't really know what to ask so I'll just start with this. I'm using an ASRock H81M-HDS to overclock a G3258. I've only been able to get it up to 4.6ghz and bench it, any higher and it crashes or freeze. I only have air cooling, and in south florida with no ac except at night heat is an issue.

Have you checked your temps at that speed. How about CPU voltage?

memory speed and timings should be able to be improved. Let us know your exact memory too.

My temps can range at load at 4.6ghz and 1.420v between 70c up to 85c depending if the ac in my room is on or not.

Funny I just got new memory today!! I have Ballistix Elite 16GB 1866 PCB-14900. Right now stock 9-9-9-24 699.6Mhz. I had before Kingston Hyperx Blu 4GB 1600 at 9-9-9-24

i would first see if you can get your memory at least up to spec. It could help to raise scores on all 3 benchmarks.

Cooler temps will get better results. If you have to wait until cooler temps at night, it would be beneficial. You could even go as extreme as ducting your a/c straight to your computer.

Hey all,

I've just beat my best score by 3 points in xtu and 20pps in HWBOT prime!!

Heres the link http://hwbot.org/submission/2622858_devlos_xtu_pentium_g3258_328_marks?recalculate=true
and this
http://hwbot.org/submission/2622891_devlos_hwbot_prime_pentium_g3258_3663.24_pps?recalculate=true

I have my RAM settings all on auto in UEFI.

What I did was raise the volts for the cache up to 1.320v and was able to run the cache a 4.4ghz without crashing. YES All my other atempts at 4.4ghz would crash.

Now what?? should I try to go higher with the cache until its the same as the core?

Thank all!

And xsuberbgx, I did this:

Not extreme enough if you ask me :)

Personally I wouldn't put much more voltage to the cache with just an air cooler, that seems a bit high to me already. There should be an option in your bios to set the XMP profile for that ram as well to get it up to 1866 where it should be, that will aslso help with your scores.

The xmp profile isnt there with this RAM, it was there with other Kingston RAM. Also sometimes I get the option to set the ram at many different speeds and sometimes I only have the option to between 800 - 1400, this is how it is with the Kingston too.. I think my motherboard is limited. I should be getting a Z97 oc formula delivered today so maybe that will help ALOT I hope.

Congrats rayraysfunhouse!!!

It'll definately be more OC friendly, good buy devlos

RAM is correct now. This new motherboard is very nice. The bios has some overclocked profiles I can load instantly. I have to wait till nite to run my a/c. I'll have to wait till then to overclock... more today!

I have a question. Should I take out my video card while trying to overclock? I only have a 450w psu that cant be enough. Also I'm trying to figure out what went wrong when windows crashes ie bsod vs locking up. idk
