Looking to get an Asrock z97 extreme6 mobo ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157500 ) And want to match it with G. Skill 1866 ram (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231615 ). I've never gotten any ram that falls into the OC category for mobos, so I'm wondering will this ram run at 1866 just by plugging it into the motherboard or is there a process (hoping for a link or explanation), that I will have to undergo to get this ram to actually run at 1866.

Thanks for help.

The memory will probably default to DDR3-1333. You can either enable XMP Profile 1 (DDR3-1866) which auto-adjusts the effective DRAM frequency, timings, and voltage. Or you can manually select DDR3-1866 from the available DRAM Frequency options, assuming the BCLK hasn't been modified. The available DRAM frequency options are specific ratios/dividers (FSB/BCLK : DRAM) dependent on the current BCLK. In addition to manually adjusting the DRAM frequency, you would also need to manually adjust the timings and voltage. Best bet is option 1, whereas the BIOS/UEFI reads the SPD information from the DRAM modules, and auto-adjusts everything for you automatically when enabling XMP.
