I have been using an i5 hp laptop for the last 3 years and am wanting to get a new pc. After looking around this last week and reading a lot, it seems the best way to go is to build it my self. There are a few things I am not sure on, some things I think I may be overkilling on. I am not a big gamer, I have a ps4. I would like to be able to run Diablo 3 at ultra. However, if 1-2 years down the line I wanna get a top end gpu I would like to still have a pc that would support it. So although right now a high end gpu is not a priority, down the line it may be. So I wanna have a cpu/mobo/psu that will support it. This is what I have came up with so far in all my research.

CPU: Either the i5 4690k or i7 4790k (I know i5 is more then sufficient now, but is it worth it to spend the extra $110 on the i7 for future purposes? I want this pc to be going strong 2-3 years from now.)

Mobo: THis is the thing I am struggling with the most. I love the msi z97 Mpower ac max. The wifi and badass audio it comes with, along with the simple overclocking seems the way to go. But this is obviously a high end mobo and probably way more than I need. Although at $220 it doesn't seem that crazy. This is something I need the most help with. I definitely want nice 7.1 sound, overclocking capability (expecially if I get i5) Also this has good future expansion possibilities, or atleast that's my understanding.

GPU: Not sure on this one either. Although from what ive read it seems the GTX 750i will suit my purposes. The amd r9 790x seems a decent option at $50 more but with all the extra power draw and heat im not sure its worth it. The 750i may be to much as it is. I would love advice on this one. If this build will run diablo 3 at ultra I will be happy. I can play high end games on ps4.

Case: This is something I am confused over aswell. I have big hands so don't know if that means I need a bigger case. Although I don't want some huge lunker in case I wanna take my pc somewhere. Also I don't want it to sound like I have a jet engine in my room while im watching a movie lol. Is the case just about how it looks? Or is there functionality to it?

Is it possible to build a nice pc to do what im wanting for $1k or am I gonna need to shell out 1.2k? I hope I made sense and outlined what im looking for in a clear and concise manner.

How does this look? I have put together about 5-6 different pcs on pcpartpicker and have learned a great deal doing so. I think I finally came up with a good solid 1k pc. It can do a lot more than I thought I'd be able to for 1k. Please let me know what yall think. I spent about 3hrs on this particular build looking different things up and reviews. Let me know what you think about the motherboard and if there is anything that can be upgraded or downgraded ect... I will prolly change the optical drive to an lg cuz pcpart says this writes bluerays but im not sure it does.

I would avoid msi mobo and the H55.

get a gigabyte or asrock mobo and a good air cooler (nhd14/15, phantek phtc14pe or true 140).

get the mx4 instead of the as5.

everything else looks good.

How's this? Is this mobo to much? What do you suggest for a mobo? Why do I not need water cooling for if im overclocking, expecially in this little case? Thank you for taking the time to help me out.

Although I would like to keep it closer to 1k. How much of a difference would this build made 2-3 years from now? I know the i5 is all you need now, but what about 1-2 or 3 years? I want this pc to still be comparable in 2 years atleast. So if that means spending $250 more now and it will make a big difference than its worth it. Any thoughts on this build? with i7 and 780

To answer your questions:
If you want tro go water, either go for a custom loop or something like the Swiftech H220-X (http://www.overclockers.com/swiftech-h220x-cpu-liquid-cooling-kit-review).
The H55 doesn't perform as well as a high end air cooler plus the issues you can have with a defect pump and such.

Your last build looks really good.

A couple of objections though:
Get the MX4 instead of the AS5.
Get a better air cooler (as mentioned in my first post) than the 212: it won't allow high OC with the i7 (thermal envelop higher than the i5).
120GB SSD is kind of tiny now. I am sure you can get soimething like a samsung 840 evo 250GB for roughly 100 bucks.

Give this a look.

Also consider building an mITX system like Little Power (see my sig for the build log).
I can throw something together for that to fit your requirements as well.

If you're playing at 1080p then a 750Ti would be a great choice. Especially for smaller form factors.

What do you mean mx4 istead of as5? Thank you for info on 750i! Everyonr has just been bashing everything besides 770, 780 and r90. I just don't know that I need Nything more tjan tje 750i. Although at $170 more its hard to not throw tje SC 770 in.

the thermal paste: the mx4 is a bit better than the as5 for the same price.
