So less than 2 weeks ago I picked up an EVGA GeForce GTX 780 6GB SC from Amazon.

A week after that I got a new 4k monitor, a 28 inch ASUS PB287Q.

I wanted to make the transition into 4k gaming and viewing, and I have to say it looks really, really awesome.

Now that the GTX 980s are coming out though I am wondering if I should return my new graphics card since I'm still within' the return window. I thought the card I got was pretty solid, and that 6 GB would serve me well both in the future and with 4k gaming in general. Is it worth it to upgrade to the 980 do you think? It (currently) only has a 4 GB version.

I just didn't realize this new series of card was going to drop so soon after I bought the last one.

Any thoughts or advice?

RETURN TO SENDER!!!!!!!!! You will be putting money back into your pocket because the gtx 980 is going to release cheaper then the 780 6g. And the gtx 980 is made to preform better in 4k anyways. More cons if you hold on to the 780 and more pros if you switch to the 980

3GB of vRAM and 4K makes me nervous though...I personally wouldn't return the 780 6GB if I was rocking a 4K monitor.

980 is 200 more than 780... you do the math... oh wait, i already did.

980 $550
780 $420

550-420=$130

With 6GB

980 $550
780 6GB $580

550-580=- $30

980-780=200
therefor 980 is a greater value by 200
which would make it safe to assume 980 > 780
which then makes one ask, why buy the lesser one?

Heh, thanks for the advice and the math humor.

If I buy the new card I might finance it... and if I did I'm thinking of getting two of them for SLI and I wonder how big a difference there would be between two 4 GB 980s and one 6 GB 780.
