Hi,
First of all I want to say that this forum rocks! I have learned a lot from reading things here and the community seem really friendly.

I am building my first gaming PC and have one part left to chose, the PSU. I plan to O/C my CPU, my graphic card is already O/C ed.

My question is, is 400 W enough power for my rig and will it allow for more powerful GPUs that will be made in the future? Or should I go for 450W/500W/550W/650W??

The reason I am asking is because if 400W is enough I am willing to pay around $100 to get a fanless/noiseless PSU. If I need to go 460W and above I'll just get a $50-$90 normal PSU.

400W - SeaSonic Platinum Series SS-400FL2 - $110
460W - Seasonic SS-460FL2 Active PFC F3- $130
500W - Rosewill SilentNight-500 - $140 (oct 2014)

I realize that I also need to have silent case fans for the noise to be reduced, but I'll be able to slowly replace these over time.

My new rig:

Motherboard:
Asrock Z87 Extreme 4

CPU:
i5 4690k

CPU cooler:
Noctua NH-D14

Gcard:
GeForce GTX 650Ti Boost 2GB

RAM:
2x 4GB (DDR3)

Hard Drives:
1x SSD - 70GB
1x 300 GB

My research on power consumption for my parts:

MOBO Power consumption
(if I am understanding this correctly) is between 56W-110W but I also saw that it can go up to 197W?

and

GPU power consumption
Says should be minimum 450W on nvidia website but not sure how real this is:
http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-650ti-boost/specifications
some test show that it goes up to 260W

So how much W do you think I need?
Thank you

Welcome to OCF !:welcome:

A good starting point for this discussion would be your budget. And have you already bought the pieces, parts, bits, stuff and such listed above or is this your shopping cart?

For what's listed, 400W would be barely enough to squeak by. Go 500W minimum. A little headroom never hurts.

I am upgrading my mobo, cpu and cpu fan. I have all other parts.
As regards to budget, I don't want to go much above $110 but don't want to spend $110 if I can get a decent psu for say $60 or $70.
I only considered going a bit higher because of the low noise factor.
