Is it ok to use a magnet to remove the cpu from the motherboard? I sometimes drop the cpu when removing it. I don't want to drop it on the pins in the socket again, again. Would a magnet hurt anything?

No a magnet will not hurt it, I don't think a magnet will work to pick up the CPU anyways as the heat spreader is non-ferrous.
