Hello world
My laptop has recently acquired the vertical lines of death on the screen. The laptop doesn't POST. Its just gives false hope and the illusion of starting up. I've tried to hook it up to 2 different monitors, but no signal on both. I've tried the battery removed and 30 to 60 second power button hold down, nothing. I have the 1300 dollar Gateway p-6831fx piece of crap model. I've been combing the internets for tidbits of information to give me insight for a possible solution. From my search i've learn i am not alone out there and this problem is some what prevalent with this crappy Gateway Laptop to put it lightly. Other p-6831fx users have mentioned running into this similar or same problem after 5 years. I roughly got 6 years of use, i was the lucky one. Its nice if Gateway did build in a 5 year lifespan. So if you're looking to upgrade to the latest technology in the future instead of worrying about what to do with the old laptop after purchasing a new one. Gateway made it easier so i can let the trashmen worry about it or have some kid in some third world country worry about what parts can be salvaged. From what I understand it could be the graphics card failing in a way, something about the solder on the chip allowing the connections to separate at high temperatures. It could be fixed by disassembling the laptop and blowing hot air onto the graphics chip to allow the solder to reapply itself. If the graphics card is truly filleted, the whole motherboard has be replaced since its all one piece. I'm not sure what to do at this point, it was a good laptop in its heyday, but now its mayday, mayday you jerks at Gateway. If i should try to blow some hot air onto the chip and see if it will titillate the solder or replace the motherboard. I don't know what would be feasible at this point since I can buy more bang for my buck now than 6 years ago. I want to fix it then I don't want to fix it. The damning thing i gave away my desktop at the time i got this and that desktop is still going 14 years strong .... suggestions? what should i do? Is there a way to recover the pictures off the hard drive in the meanwhile? thanks for reading
