OK!
Got a new motherboard (Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming GT) installed drivers and stuff, new SSD (256GB), fresh install of Windows 7 Prof 64-bit, Windows updates, 4GB RAM, NO anti-virus, NO firewall.
Fresh install of F@H 7.3.6.
Still can not get the GTX 970 or the CPU (i7 4770K) to fold. No overclocking.

The following log is where I have only the GPU configured to fold. I removed the cpu to try to make it simple.

18:41:32:ERROR:WU01:FS00:Exception: Failed to read stream

The other two computers on my home network are folding.

Anyone have any idea why this GTX 970 will not fold?

Why do I constantly get the "Failed to read stream"?

A coincidence...

The cause was the client not being able to download the necessary core to begin folding.
Your F@H logs support that...

Personally, I would not drop money into a new rig only to have the same internet related issue and in the end, another dead F@H rig.

Told ya...

Anyway, did you check your cat5/6 cable?
Or are you on wifi for this rig?

If you're wired, try switching to another port that the other rigs use since they can fold fine.

It's some internet issue, I really can't see a GPU being the cause for the "Failed to read stream"

Swapped cables . . . . no help.
Pulled the plug from one computer which was folding and plugged it into the one that was failing. And vice versa. No change.

Damn :-/

You have a router right?
Try plugging right in to your modem bypassing your router.

Windows firewall is OFF correct?
If so this really doesn't make sense.....

If you have enough data on your phone, tether it just long enough to download the cores and a WU.
Hopefully, you won't have issues uploading finished WU's...

Wow! It works when run directly from my modem.

I guess my Router is screwed up. I going to try a default reset on my router to see if it can be saved.

Weird. Maybe it has some ports blocked or something?
Maybe check for a new firmware update or throw DD-WRT on it someday.
Glad you were able to get it folding!

We could use more points!

Now I think the problem is either my internet service or my cable modem.
I have great difficulty connecting to the internet consistently. I have an intermittent connection once I finally connect. I am trying to connect each computer to upload and download folding work.

Just in general or just for F@H?

Maybe give your ISP a ring ding on Monday.
Who's your ISP anyway?

I am having trouble getting my computers to connect to the internet in general. Takes 10 to 15 minutes of network identification and trouble shooting. I'm constantly changing which computer is connected to the internet so I can upload and download WUs.
I plan on having a technician come out and determine whether it is the modem failing or their signal.
Charter communications is my ISP.

I ordered a new router. I reset the router (Netgear WNDR4500) by using the reset button to put everything back to factory default. When I put the router back in my set-up I get the old problem of not being able to connect to folding.stanford.edu/~pande.

Well, I just checked - there's no DD-WRT for you.

Any firmware upgrades?
If not, I'd ditch the router or just run straight from the modem :-/

Only as a test. If it works straight through the modem, do a 30/30/30 reset on your router.

18:41:29:  <!-- Network -->
18:41:29: <proxy v=':8080'/>

Is this a normal entry? On its own it looks like a virus may have set a proxy on your machine. I'm not in a position to check myself on that.

Two other items that may help are to check that the date and time on the machine are set correctly. Proper time zone and all.
Also, make sure that the FAH folders are read/write for the user account doing the folding.

Not sure why, but all GPUs are folding now.
I ran each computer connected to the internet by my cable modem. I took out the router from the setup.
After running like that for a day, I put the router back in (after resetting to default by pushing the reset button), and everything works.

That's expected. All your machines were able to download the cores and thus, they can fold :)
Since you can hand in WU's (right?) you shouldn't have anymore issues.

If you ever need to download the cores again (ie, setup a new folding rig) just bypass your router until it downloads a WU

I'm glad to see your points rising, right on!!
