Probably a trivial question.

Can you run fans attached to the hub without attaching the PWM cable to the motherboard.

I attached the molex (the one that says to attach only if your motherboard is not strong enough) and jump started the PSU. The leds turn on, but the fans no.

Is the hub broken?
 
Sounds like that hub requires it to be connected to the mobo for it to work properly.

Have you tried it with it connected to the mobo?

I'm building a water loop, so I'm not connecting the motherboard. I wanted to understand if the hub can work independently or need to be attached to the CPU pin as you suggest.
 
From everything I am finding it sounds t ome like it would need hooked up to a pwm connector on your mobo but I can't see anywhere that says it absolutely needs to.
