NAS Question

I bought a QNAP TS-219P 2-bay NAS here a couple weeks ago, I have a question regarding hookup. Is it possible to hook this up via usb instead of using network setup? I only want to use it for picture storage. I plugged in a usb cable but get no reaction on computer. This is the unit. http://www.qnap.com/en/index.php?sn=822&c=1655&sc=1656&t=1659&n=6685

According to their website, the USB ports are for hooking up printers or extra hard drives.

What's wrong with having it hooked up via network for picture storage?

Too much work. I just wanted something with plenty of storage space, did not know it had to be setup on network just to use it.
