I currently have an amd ati radeon hd 7770 2gb installed in my build, it is returnable, for $60, and I just ordered a Sapphire HD 7970 Dual-X 3GB GDDR5. Would I gain much running in crossfire? I'm not dying for money, but am running short on time to ship the 7770 back. I've never run multiple GPU's, and have no clue if they would work well together, if the 7770 could hold the 7970 back, or if I wouldn't notice a difference. If there's minimum difference, I'll return the 7770, and put the money towards a better CPU, wanting at least an I5, but would love an I7. Opinions?

Even if they would crossfire (I'm not sure) , the 7970 would be held back to the 7770s performance. At least that's my understanding , and the gains over one 7770 wouldn't be 2 X 7770 anyway. I would keep the 7970 , return the 7770 , and upgrade the CPU.

That's what I was originally planning, but then was thinking of crossfiring it, but I don't know much of anything about crossfire, would think you can run 2 different cards, but no clue what the effects would be...

It's likely you can cf them , but the 7970 will be held back to the performance level of the 7770 , giving you the performance of crossfiring two 7770s , which wouldn't even scale to twice the performance of one 7770. So roughly 1.75 7770s or one 7970. The 7970 wins that one.

Right, and that's $60 closer to a much better CPU, though if I knew how to OC, I hear the g3258 I have is quite decent, but my bios settings don't say the same things as the articles I've found online, and I don't really feel like screwing it up lol

I have both, hd 7770 and hd 7970, return the 7770 and get the 7970.
the 7770 is a budget card and is of little value in a gaming system for modern games.
if you only play candy crush or such the 7770 is fine.

It is much better than the Nvidia GT220 1GB I had in my previous build lmao, but yes, the 7970 was supposed to be here yesterday, but it wasn't, very depressing, but I know it was checked into Grand Rapids, so about 30-45 minutes from here at about 2:00 yesterday, so it really should be here today. I got the info I need to return the 7770, and will be shipping that back as soon as I get the 7970, but I'm not going to ship it back until then, because I hate running integrated graphics, which is why I had the GT220 in my old comp lol
