Old SSD + New Mobo

Hey guys,

Im upgrading my CPU+Mobo from Asus Maximus VI Z87 Impact to the Maximus VII Gene Z97. Do I need to format my SSDs?

I use 2 SSDs, one for OS and the other for games.

Can I use them both without formatting anything?

* Ram is the same, only upgrading from 16 to 32GB

OS: Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit

The games one, no. The OS ssd, depends on your OS. 8.1 (maybe 8 as well) has an awesome feature of not needing a reinstall on motherboard change any more.

Yup i have 8.1 pro 64bit .. any idea where to find a guide?

Just plug everything in, set your new bios to ahci before booting windows and any other settings you need to do.

I had to reinstall 8.1 when I upgraded because my old motherboard didn't know what ahci even was.

You shouldn't need to... But it is cleaner that way.

If im not mistaken all new motherboards have AHCI automatically enabled ..
