Running AIDA64 stress test:

Average temperatures (C)
Core #1 - 66.0
Core #2 - 67.9
Core #3 - 66.0
Core #4 - 59.7

AIDA64 CPUID is reporting 4.8ghz cpu clock and 1.309v core voltage.

I ran this test at these settings for 3 hours with no apparent complications. The maximum temperature reached on a single core was 82C (core #2); all other cores had maxes below 80C

The problem is, I've been told that running over 1.3v on a 22 nanometer processor (like the 4790k) can be detrimental to its lifespan.

Thus, I present the second option.

I've reached apparent stability (and obviously even cooler temperatures) with a 4.7ghz overclock @1.259v.

Which should I go for ultimately?

Personally I say 4.5 for a 24x7 if it was me. The difference between the two would be tough to spot. I'd rather have it run nice and cool at 4.5 and not have to worry about it. But thats just me.

Hmmm, well the second option seems to be doing pretty well thus far (please correct me if I'm wrong).

AIDA64 stress test 4.7ghz @1.259v :

Averages :
Core #1 - 59.2
Core #2 - 61.7
Core #3 - 60.0
Core #4 - 54.6

Maxes :
Core #1 - 71
Core #2 - 76
Core #3 - 71
Core #4 - 67

Alright cool! I'm definitely leaning towards running the 4.7 then, just going to let the test run for a little while longer.

 :p

Seems to be working great, thanks for the input guys!

got mine to boot, 4.8 @ 1.309....what cooling are you using?

my idle temps are 33-37
