I've got a computer that I fold on that I can't upgrade just yet. But seeing the ~25% increase in PPD for 14.9 drivers over the 13.xx drivers, I decided to see if I could get them to install.

I found this guide:

http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-...atest-amd-catalyst-drivers-windows-vista.html

Which is pretty good, and almost gets you there.

A few important notes though.

1. I was not able to get the modded .inf file to be recognized using their method. I had to actually replace the 6.1 string with 6.0. Also, only one of the .inf files has the 6.1 string in the right spot to replace.

2. Using Vista64, you need to disable driver signature enforcement to use the manually installed drivers. It is a pain to do it on every boot, and what happens if you aren't there at boot? I use ReadyDriver Plus to handle this for me:

I've been using it on all my computers for several years now. Useful if you want to use unsigned drivers.

3. UNINSTALL ALL PREVIOUS VERSIONS OF CATALYST! I wound up having to do a repair install because I didn't do this. Once I did it, I had no problems. Just be aware you may get an error message on rebooting later on. It doesn't seem to effect folding performance.

Good luck and enjoy the PPD increase!

Just a heads up, if you swap out cards, make sure you don't have an active internet connection or you will get the default vista level drivers and have to start over. :bang head

Well, I think there is something wrong with my Vista install, since it just became unbootable again. Then again it was originally installed right when Vista came out. So I'm upgrading to 7.
