OK here's our next installment. This month has started out so cold for us here in Canada that I thought we could warm it up with Firestrike. Being that it is February and Valentine's is just around the corner I picked an appropriate Wallpaper. Now get out there and grab your better half a new Video card you know they want one. :clap:

Ambient cooling limit plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Killing us with these tests that are CPU speed based. Anyone that decides to go cold pwns it!

This type of rule along with clock limitations as in the SPI 32m discourage best results.
Please don't turn this thread into a punch line of a joke.

It encourages tweaking and learning how to tweak. Then when someone does go cold, they can use those tweaks.

Its an intraforum competition where ~3 people go cold the rest not... This is in fun, but its no fun when the top positions are already taken by those that can go cold. This test is a bit different in that its GPU related, but I'm not taking my hex cold just for this and to win. Id rather have an ambient limit and figure out tweaks for when I do play with the big boys.

I will participate either way of course, but it just gives others a fighting chance with ambient cooling limits. Then its just hardware. LOL!

And anyone with a 5960x is going to pwn everyone else, that's just the way it goes.
Next month maybe we'll do Heaven since I think that's the only one that CPU speed makes less of a difference.

I do understand the reasoning, personally I just disagree with it.

I don't really have any resource to bench on ambient

This is a "just for fun" competition. There's no major prize give-away at the end. That's one of the reasons I'm here. My gear can't compete with most of the hardware out there, but I still enjoy it. Just bench what you have. Personally I don't care if Witchy crushes me with LN2 or E_D beats me with a 5960X. OK, maybe it hurts a little when AJ's lappy beats me, but it's still all in fun. And to be totally honest, because I'm focusing on one bench for the whole month I have the time to learn different tweaks for each one. Sorry for the rant, just my 2c.

It is just for fun... but why not make it MORE fun by limiting cooling to what EVERYONE can use is my take. You all do understand there is no point in sub ambient cooling in these except to win, right? Going cold doesn't give you more tweaks and doesn't help you learn anything about the benchmark which was part of the reason we are having this marathon again.

Oh well...I'll shut my pie hole.

I know exactly what you're talking about E_D. I tried one month with a limit and it was OK. Some liked it, some didn't which I did hear about. In the end I decided it might be best to just stick to the original format.

There is NO limit on cooling, CPU speed, memory speed...etc... This is going to be an all out competition

This may also encourage other to try more exotic cooling after seeing what a difference it can make.
