Here is the value of SMP folding today. After the FAH SMP serves went down for several days, they finally started accepting WUs. I returned 12 WUs and was awarded a grand total of 1547 points. :bang head Those deadlines are brutal, and get applied no matter why WUs are turn in late.

I am reviewing -- the situation.
Can a fellow be a folder all his life?
All the trials...and tribulations,
Better settle down, before the wife finds out....:-/

It seems GPU is where the points are at, I haven't checked my i3 recently but it has been putting out 5-7k ppd for a few years already. I don't expect smp to make all my points, it's just extra points.

What about CPUs like 5820k, or something similar (4930k?), how much PPD they produce?

A 5820k would probably produce around 35k ppd, not much compared to a maxwell pushing 300k ppd. Clearly SMP folding is not valued very highly. Considering both would probably take about 250 watts from the wall, the ppd/watt is not favorable to SMP.

There's no argument about SMP producing less than Maxwell GPU's like 970 980, but i think i7-5820k should produce more. That's because from my experience, running i7-2600k @ 4500 mhz, on native Ubuntu, gives between 30-34K ppd ( running now: project 7520 with time per frame of 3 min 24 sec, and 4 minute upload time), i wonder what the 5820k produces.

No doubt that running the Windows v7 CPU client gives very low PPD.

Q6600 is worth ~6kPPD and a large electrical bill. Heats up my bedroom 10ºF warmer than the rest of the house.

Switching over to GPU only shortly.

My 4790k is clocked at 4.4 GHz folding on 4 cores, yields 14,500 PPD project 9014.
My 4770k is clocked at 3.5 GHz folding on 7 cores, yields 19,400 PPD project 9201.

My v7 980x @3.8 ghz 6 core cpu makes about 30k ppd so I am surprised 7 cores only gives 19k.

Let's mention that the software setup for cpu counts, from high to low: native Linux -> Linux in VM -> Windows cpu client.
