So all day I've been having issues getting work for my machines here. I finally got some work for my main rig but the server is still not doing anything.

I checked the status of the server on the stanford site and it seems to be up

my logs give me this

I reinstalled the client to see if that would help but no dice
 
I have had to restart my client at the last exchange, it was waiting at "next attempt in 10xxx minutes, restarted the client and it loaded right up.
 
well I tried starting and stopping the client a bunch of times during the day, reboots, even reinstalled...damn thing irritates me to no end! If it's not freezing my systems it's not doing anything at all...GRRRR
 
well some time during the night, the whole client shut down, so when I got up this morning I restarted the computer (again) and now it's working...go figure
 
Yes, i have problem with connecting to CPU folding servers, looks like this:

That problem is arround for a week or 1.5 weeks.
 
PG is recommending the v7 client as the solution to v6 outages, which they say will get worse and
of course, v6 is scheduled to be phased out.
 
Well mine's doin' it again, it's just sitting at ready, v7 client, both slots, gpu and cpu

Doesn't seem to last. Eventually I get GPU WUs.

My main annoyance is just AMD graphics drivers crashing if I try to browse a complicated web page while I'm folding.
 
Nvidia here but I had a hard lock yesterday on youtube ~15 minutes after completing a SMP WU and Pausing a GPU one...

I have found SNORT blocking the work servers before and that has prevented upload, trashed a WU(probably blocked it at 99.99%) and prevented downloads.

I expect I'm not the only techy with an IDS/IPS

I can't be rebooting my server all the time, it has stuff to do, it never did this before

A reboot did do the trick, but like I said, that's not a viable solution for me

There was a time when folding regularly required all kinds of extra working including reboots, new software, freezing and other annoying habits. Recently WUs have become very stable....perhaps we are reverting back to the mean.
 
While the problem continues, I'm trying the V7 client in Ubuntu. It works, but PPD seems to be lower compared to v6.34 .

Under Linux it has been observed that v6 clients get A3 work, v7 clients get A4 work which is usually slightly lower scoring than A3.
Also don't forget that if you have installed v7 you will not have the kraken wrapper installed unless you manually copy the cores into the correct folder.
 
I get WAY lower points with v7 compared to v6.

What is The Kraken for, and how to install it? Is it the "core wrapper" download from where we download the v7 FAHClient and FAHControl files?

I have something strange with the V7 client: i have 2 cpu folders: i7-920 running in Ubuntu in VM, and i7-2600k running Ubuntu native. With v6.34 (when it worked) i got 7-10k ppd in 920 in VM, and 30K with 2600k native.

With v7, the 920 VM yields around 7.5k ppd, which is only a bit less, but the native 2600k went from 30k to 9-10k ppd which is embarrassing. Does anyone know whats wrong with that?

P.S. I have the cores in

/home/student/folding v7/cores/web.stanford.edu/~pande/Linux

30K PPD?

I was only getting 4-6K PPD on my i5 2300 clocked in at 3.4 Ghz...

9-10K PPD sounds more realistic IMO.
