I was kind of excited to hear BFG might be coming back :), and then really disappointed when I found out it was a joke. :(
 
It wouldn't... unless you plan to run 3x 4K monitors and even then, who knows if the 12GB the original comes with is even used...

I don't know where the Titan X is aimed at with its 12GB none the less this 24GB mess...


... that I am still hoping is an early April Fool's joke.

In some games at 4K, "lesser" cards with less VRAM pull better frame rates than the new card, suggesting the amount of VRAM means diddly for a while. It's about raw horsepower for huge resolutions for now. When/if the textures catch up...maybe, but we're not there yet.

Oh it means something... it just, as you alluded to, depends on the game (and settings). But horsepower for such a resolution is still a key factor.
