hey guys im sorta looking at upgrading my cards and I generally don't keep up with the newer ones till I think about upgrading. currently got dual 270X and its good and all but with triple monitors, I still have to keep in Low settings in BF4 to maintain constant +75fps with VSYNC on. I can easily run Medium and probably higher but it will get some bad drops and I much prefer smoother framerate than higher quality which is why I keep vsync on. but I figure its time to move up to more power. I was thinking about moving to dual 290X because a friend has one sitting around he thinks has issues but I was going to try it out and use it as the slave card. but im really curious about the 295x2. thoughts?

I would wait a month for when the new 3** series comes out, should shake things up a bit.

I concur. Once the 3** cards come out, the prices on the 290's should drop dramatically. That should net you a sweat deal on a pair for some xfire action. ;)

sounds like a plan. you say there gonna be released pretty soon then? I don't really keep up with the newer tech cause I know ill never be able to afford it till after its starting to be dated

so now that the newer cards are out id like to bump this for some recommendations

from the little bit of research it looks like the Fury X is about the same price as the 295X2. and dual 290X isn't much cheaper than the 295X2. ive seen where the 295x2 is a lot better and a lot worse in different applications than the Fury X. im just not sure which setup would be best. I have an 850w PSU (single 70amp rail) im hoping that would be enough

Couple things;

The 295x2 is still the strongest card, but is dual gpu.

Both the 295x2 and fury x only have 4gb. For triple monitor this could eventually be an issue with memory buffering.

You can get 2 8gb 290x and be set pretty hard for a long long time, and out of the solutions is what I would do. The 980ti is clearly a lot stronger than the 290x, but in most cases, xfire 290x will crush the 980ti for around the same cost.

Cue the "but single cards are better" and "do you have any idea how much power those cards take" brigades lol. A single card is always best. If thats fine, the 980ti is still your best bet here.

You need to upgrade your PSU because it is a piece of junk, not because 850W isn't enough. if you kept the GPUs at stock, you would be fine with 850W. But you want to overclock a 220W CPU, and overclock the cards, so a bit more headroom is what you want (not need) at 1KW. He is also on an Intel system and his CPU uses A LOT less power than yours... so an 850W with 295x2 or 2 290x's is fine.. trust me, I run it (5820K @ 4.2-4.4GHz with 295x2 on a 750W PSU).

Bob did a more than adequate job above.

But one thing, I am not sure you mentioned what resolution you are gaming on. If its 2560x1440 or less, [SINGLE CARD BRIGADE PRESENT!!! - you are such an arse Bob...] go with a single high end card.

But looking at your sig you have mismatched 3x monitors... what do you game at???

I game at 5120x1080 when the games support triple monitors otherwise at 1920x1080. they don't align perfectly ingame but still pretty close and still much better than single monitor. and I never OC my video cards, it just always makes them way to unstable with minimal gain

I was hoping the Fury X would have been good enough to make people sell there 290x so I can scoop them up cheap. doesn't look like its happening tho. maybe my 270x cards will retain some value then. might just pick up a 295x2 new.

stupid question, is the 295x2 about the same physical size as a 290x or 270x?

Get the freakin 980ti... save up for a bit if you can't get one right away. 600$ for a 295x2 vs 650 for a 980 ti... no brainer imo

well u wernt kidding about how big someof these cards are. i ended up buying a 980Ti and that thing is MASSIVE compared to a 270x. hardly fit inside of my case. cant wait to try this out but i had to order some HDMItoDP adapters for my side monitors

lol i know its dusty, its my noise insulator ;). built this rig over a year ago and havent opened it since. my radiator is pretty clogged. going to take some compressed air to it today but it was 1am and didnt wanna fire up my compressor

Is that the 980 to amp! Extreme? If so good choice! I had two Zotac gtx 670s in the past and both were amazing performer and overclockers. Personally I think Zotac Is an underrated and under stated brand. Their amp! Models usually can go toe to toe with evga classified, MSI lightning, etc.
