I checked out some of the pricing on these phones you've listed this morning after reading your update. Some of the lower end, older models can be had for around $140. I'm pretty sure that lower end these days translates to a pretty good phone, if specs mean much. Thanks for following this Cuda.

I don't know about many phones on that list, but i am aware that you guys (US) can get a new Lumia 640 for $30.00 Free shipping, no contract. Fyi...

I'm a little bummed my 920 we not be eligible for Windows 10 Mobile... :sly:

Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14295 for PC and Mobile
By Gabe Aul / Corporate Vice President, Engineering Systems Team

Hi everyone,

Today we are releasing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14295 for both PC and Mobile to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring.

In addition to devices that shipped with Windows 10 such as the Lumia 550, 650, 950, 950 XL, Xiaomi Mi4, and Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL, we are releasing this build to the list of devices that will be capable of receiving updates as part of the Windows Insider Program except the Lumia 635. We will add the Lumia 635 at a later date. Going forward – these devices will be able to receive new builds from our Development Branch that we release to the Fast and Slow rings. As we stated previously, only devices which are eligible to receive the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade will be able to get preview builds from the Development Branch.

With this build being only a few days newer than the last build, you won’t see any major new features. However, we do have a good set of fixes in this build that Insiders will enjoy.

Here’s what’s fixed for PC

We fixed the issue that was causing PCs to freeze when plugging in an Xbox One or Xbox 360 controller and other gamepads.
We fixed an issue where Microsoft Edge would refresh the tab if you pressed caps lock in a password field.
We fixed an issue preventing the Xbox app and other Xbox Live enabled apps and games from signing in.
We have fixed the driver bug that prevents Kaspersky Anti-Virus, Internet Security, or the Kaspersky Total Security Suite installed from working as expected in builds from the Development Branch.

Here’s what’s fixed for Mobile

*We fixed the issue where if you reset your phone on Build 14291 and restore your phone from a backup, restore will fail to install apps from your backup’s apps list leaving blank grey titles on Start. You should be able to reset your phone on this build, do a restore from a backup, and have your apps installed and restored appropriately.
*We fixed an issue where new languages and keyboards were not downloading. However, there is an issue where the “reboot” UX doesn’t appear in the Settings app after downloading a new language or keyboard. You will need to go to Update & security > Phone update and restart your phone manually from there for the new language and keyboard to go into effect.

Known issues for PC

We are aware of issues with Narrator and other screen reader apps being unable to read the menu options in the Feedback Hub, as well as issues with Narrator not reading selected text in the Feedback Hub, Cortana, and other apps. We’re working diligently to fix these bugs as soon as possible and apologize to Insiders impacted by this.
If you use Hyper-V and have a Virtual Switch configured for your network adapter, you may see an error indicator (red-colored “X”) for your network adapter in the notification area of your taskbar. The error indicator is incorrect and your network adapter should continue to work just fine.
On some PCs with TPM chips, such as the ASUS Zenbook UX31, you may experience glitchy audio and jumpy movement when using the trackpad due to the “tpm-maintenance” task running constantly in the background instead of once per boot-up like it should. As a temporary workaround, you can disable the tpm-maintenance task in Task Scheduler (under \microsoft\windows\tpm).
PCs that use Windows Hello or a PIN to sign-in to the device will launch the Microsoft Passport service. When this happens, there is an issue in this build where Bluetooth will then repeatedly scan for devices. This causes a few issues on the PC including reduced battery life, audio glitches, responsiveness issues with Bluetooth keyboards and mice, a decrease in Wi-Fi throughput on Wi-Fi/Bluetooth combo chipsets, and a decrease in throughput for Bluetooth file transfers. As a workaround, you can disable the Microsoft Passport (NgcSvc) service by opening an elevated Command Prompt, run “reg add HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\NgcSvc /v Start /t REG_DWORD /d 0x4 /f” and then reboot. However, you will not be able to use Windows Hello or a PIN to sign-in to your device. The service will be re-enabled again when you update to the next build.
After upgrading to this build from Build 14291, attempting to connect to a Miracast receiver the connection will fail. The workaround to get out of this state is to go to this registry key “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\
Parameters” and select “StandaloneDhcpAddress” and change the value from “192.168.173.1” to “192.168.137.1” (value type is REG_SZ). Then retry the connection to the Miracast receiver.
We are seeing reports of some apps such as QQ crashing. We are currently investigating, and this bug may also impact older apps such as Windows Live Mail and Expression Encoder 4.

Known issues for Mobile

*After updating to the most recent builds from our Development Branch, a system API failure occurs after the update that causes the Microsoft Band 1 or 2 to have sync issues. To get out of this bad state, you can reset your phone on this build, re-pair your Microsoft Band, and syncing should work again.
*After upgrading to this build from a previous build from our Development Branch, attempting to connect to a Miracast receiver the connection will fail. There is no workaround for this issue unfortunately on Mobile.
*The Gadgets app will not detect the Microsoft Display Dock on phones running Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview builds, and thus cannot update the firmware version. If you have a dock which has already been updated to version 4 then this will not affect you. If you have a dock that has not been updated, then you may experience some minor issues with USB-C stability. You will still be able to use your dock and Continuum.

As always – thank you for being Windows Insiders and make sure to send us feedback on any issues you run into with these builds in the Feedback Hub.

Thanks,
g

I'm a little bummed my 920 we not be eligible for Windows 10 Mobile...
FWIW, running a Lumia 625, 630 and a 1320 here with the latest Production build 10.0.10586.164 via the Insider program(Fast Ring), no major issues so far.
Also having a 650 W10 Mobile, running same software version as in the insider release.

Think the 920 should run it too via the insider program?

It does, & i do, but that is not the same as being "officially" supported...

Considering the age of the phone, i really shouldn't be surprised.

Ah well, keep testing

Preview Build 14322

April 14, 2016 12:02 pm

Announcing Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview Build 14322
By Gabe Aul / Corporate Vice President, Engineering Systems Team

Hi everyone,

Today we are releasing Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview Build 14322 for Windows Insiders in the Fast ring.

As a reminder – we are now releasing builds for Mobile from our Development Branch to the list of devices that will be capable of receiving updates as part of the Windows Insider Program except the Lumia 635. We will add the Lumia 635 at a later date. As we stated previously, only devices which are eligible to receive the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade will be able to get preview builds from the Development Branch going forward.

Here’s what’s new in Build 14322

Improvements to Action Center & Notifications

Visual changes to Action Center: Individual app notifications in Action Center no longer show the app icon repeated for each notification and will only be seen in the header that groups together all the notifications specific for that app. This change allows for more space in Action Center to show more content.

1.png

Visual changes to Notifications: We’re making Action Center richer with support for notifications with more flexible layouts similar to the richness of Live Tiles. Notifications with images will now display larger than they did previously. Notifications can have “hero image” for content that is an even bigger image size to make content in notifications pop even more.

2.png

Cortana notifications in Action Center: We have also added new insights from Cortana to ensure you are not missing anything important, such as a meeting conflict or anything she needs to remind you about.

Notification prioritization in Action Center: You can manage the notification settings for individual apps by going to Settings > System > Notifications & actions and prioritize which app notifications are more important to you. You can prioritize its notifications to be in one of 3 levels: Normal, High, or Top. You can also adjust how many notifications are visible per app. The default is now 3 per app. If an app has more than 3 notifications, just click or tap to expand and see all notifications for that app. This feature is also available on PC starting with Build 14316.

Customize your Quick Actions in Action Center: You can add, remove and re-arrange the Quick Actions that show up in Action Center. To customize your Quick Actions, just go to the Settings > System > Notifications & actions. In this settings page, you will see a replica of your Quick Actions as it appears in Action Center, and with a simple press and hold you can move the Quick Actions to the place where you want them to be. Then to add or remove a Quick Action, there is a link below the grid that will allow you to turn on or off the available Quick Actions.

Cortana Improvements

More ways to create Cortana Reminders: We are making it easier and quicker to set a reminder in Cortana with 2 new exciting ways to create reminders. You can now create a Photo Reminder by taking a picture of something you want to be reminded about, like that beer you just tried and want to pick up next time you’re at the store. You can also now set reminders on content from UWP apps that utilize the share contract in Windows, like Microsoft Edge and the News app, so you don’t forget to read that article your friend sent you. You can share an article from the News app to Cortana and have her remind you to read it at a later time. This even works with photos from your collection in the Photos app! Give it a try.

4.png

Updates to the Settings app

Icons for individual settings pages: All pages in the Settings app now have individual icons associated with them. These individual icons will also be shown when you pin a settings page to Start. And we have also added a dropdown flyout with page suggestions that will appear as you type into the Settings search box. These changes are designed to make it easier to find the settings you are looking for.

5.png

Navigation bar settings page and vibration setting: We created a page for the navigation bar at Settings > Personalization > Navigation bar. You can now use this page to configure preferences for vibration and double tap the navigation bar to turn off the screen.

6.png

Glance screen settings have moved: As part of our work to make settings more discoverable and user friendly, we’ve simplified the Glance settings options and moved the page out of the Extras section in the Settings app. These settings can now be found via Settings > Personalization > Glance screen. With this change, Glance settings no longer need to be downloaded or updated from the Store.

7.png

Updated Battery Settings and Battery Saving Experience: Just like what was seen in last week’s PC build, there is now a single entry point for all battery related settings in the Settings app – including Battery Saver. This also includes the updated the Detailed Battery Use page so you can now manage the per-app background settings inline without going to a second page. You can also adjust the percentage in which Battery Saver turns on (which is at 20% by default) – something we had with Windows Phone 8.1 that Insiders wanted to see us re-implement as we merged Battery Sense into the Settings app for both PC and mobile.

Updated Windows Update Settings: You can now also set the time in which you are most active on your phone just like on your PC by adjusting active hours under Settings > Update & security > Windows Update. Windows Update will avoid automatically installing updates during your active hours on your device.

This build brings our new emoji to your phone. As part of this work, the emoji section of the keyboard has been slightly reorganized to better align with the newly available emoji. It’s now arranged as follows: Favorites, Smileys and Animals, People, Celebrations and Objects, Food and Plants, Transportation and Places, Symbols, and ASCII emoticons.

For more on our new emoji, check out my blog post for Build 14316 for PC.

Microsoft Edge Improvements:

Better copy/paste: We’ve made a couple of improvements to copy and paste on the phone. When you are typing into an edit box on a web page, you will now be able to use the paste button above the keyboard. Also, if you select text on a web page the copy button will appear immediately near the selection.

Better tab behavior: Microsoft Edge keeps your tabs under control when you use it with apps on your phone. If you tap on a link in an app that opens a new tab in Microsoft Edge, pressing the back button when you’re done will close that tab, then take you back to the app. Your tabs list stays lean and relevant, by smartly closing tabs you’re done with.

You can also check out the Microsoft Edge changelog website for more information on platform changes in Microsoft Edge with Insider Preview builds.
USB Ethernet Support with Continuum (Mobile)

Continuum-capable phones now include support for most USB Ethernet adapters. If you connect a USB Ethernet adapter your Lumia 950 or Lumia 950 XL via the Microsoft Display Dock for example – you will have network connectivity through an attached Ethernet cable. A few notes on this feature:

You may see an error message the first time you connect. There is nothing wrong with your adapter, and the message will be eliminated in a future update.
Not all adapters are supported yet – more will be added in a future update.
In this update, you will not see a visual indicator that you are connected, so if you want to double-check that it’s working you can turn off Wi-Fi and cellular data.
Windows 10 Mobile supports proxy configuration for Wi-Fi and VPN connections. Proxy support for LAN connections will be available in a future update.

Improved experience while on Lock screen

Camera button on the Lock screen: When your phone is locked, the back button on the navigation bar is now replaced with a camera button. Press and hold this button to launch the Camera app from the Lock screen.

Media controls show on top of the Lock screen: We’ve heard a lot of feedback on this so we’re really excited to get this out to Insiders. While you are listening to music, you will now be able to control the music you are listening to right from the Lock screen! If you turn on your phone’s screen, the media controls will now be shown embedded right on top of the Lock screen.

11.png

Commenting in the Feedback Hub

Just like on PC, you also have the ability to comment on feedback inside the Feedback Hub on your phone in addition to the responses from our engineering team you have seen in the app already (we call these “sticky comments”). So in addition to up-voting on feedback, you can now comment on feedback too.

Messaging Everywhere Preview Coming Soon

We will soon be enabling a preview of the “Messaging everywhere” feature in Windows 10 that allows you to send and receive text messages from your phone directly from your Windows 10 PC’s. You will see options for this feature in the Messaging app on PC but not on Mobile. A newer Mobile build is required for this experience to fully light up. More to come on this when the experience is live.

Here’s what’s fixed for Mobile

**While we were researching issues impacting typing accuracy on end user phones, we discovered that many user dictionaries contain incorrect words or have been corrupted over time. As a one time-measure, we are resetting user dictionaries on phones to address this issue. Note that if you suspect that your user dictionary is interfering with efficient typing, you can always manually clean it by going to Settings > Privacy > Speech, Inking and Typing and select “Stop getting to know me”, “Turn off”, “Start getting to know me”, “Turn on”. In addition to this, we have added a new context to the Feedback Hub, so you can now directly log feedback for the typing suggestions or corrections. It can be found under the Input and Interaction Methods category. If you’re reporting an issue, specific examples of what you’re seeing are always helpful.
**We fixed an issue resulting in the screen flickering while watching a full screen video or when you first launched the Camera app.
**We’ve tuned the alarm volume ramp up for alarms using your music – the initial volume will be the same softer level we started using in earlier builds as a result of your feedback, but now it will get louder faster.
**We updated the reminder and alert notification logic, so if you answer a call while at least one notification is visible, you no longer need to dismiss that notifications before being able to end the call. You will now see the call in-progress banner above the notification while in this state, and tapping it will bypass any existing notifications without having to first dismiss them.
**We fixed an issue where pressing the hardware volume controls would quit Netflix playback.
**We fixed an issue where Chinese Input Method Editor users would lose their typing history after reboot, as well as an issue resulting in the Chinese 12-key keyboard crashing if you typed “erbo” (㜦).
**We fixed an issue where swiping from Start to the All apps list would get stuck after exiting Continuum.
**We fixed an issue where music would sometimes stop playing a few minutes after the device had been locked or the screen had been turned off.
**We fixed an issue resulting in the keyboard dismissing when you tapped the first key after having interacted with the app bar.
**We fixed an issue where trying to delete and re-type an auto-correction would result in it getting auto-corrected again.
**We fixed an issue where locking and unlocking the phone quickly with Action Center open could result in Start being stuck on resuming.
**We fixed an issue where the keyboard would sometimes show all black when responding to a text in the Action Center above the Lock screen.
**We fixed an issue where users with their Lock screen set to Bing would just see the default Windows 10 background.
**We fixed an issue resulting a missing Windows logo above the Start screen in the Task Switcher.
**We fixed an issue where phone call could stop ringing if interrupted by an SMS notification.
**We fixed an issue where the app name on the Start tile could be truncated even though there’s space available to display it.
**We fixed an issue where volume control would continue to show headphones volume after headphones had been disconnected.
**Notification text in banners and Action center will now grow larger when the Ease of Access “Text Scaling” option is enabled.

Known issues for Mobile

**Language and speech packs are unable to be downloaded and will show errors due to a backend issue.
**We’re investigating a crash with the Camera app when going into your camera roll.
**There is an issue in which you may see duplicate apps under All apps showing as pending despite being installed and usable on your phone. You may also see some apps stuck in the Store.
**You may see square boxes in certain apps when using some of the new emoji – we’re still getting support for the new emoji added throughout the systems, this will be resolved in a future build.
**In some cases, users might get in a state where neither space or enter are working on the keyboard. If that happens, pressing and holding one of the apps in the All apps list until a context menu appears may resolve the issue. If this doesn’t work, you will need to reboot.
**UPDATE: There is a bug in this build preventing Tweetium from launching.
**UPDATE: Facebook Messenger will fail to launch from Start or All apps. As a workaround, you can open Facebook Messenger via the Facebook app or open Facebook Messenger from Cortana. You can also tap on notifications from Facebook Messenger to open the app as well. This bug impacts numerous other Windows Phone 8.1 apps such as WeChat, Transfer My Data, and UC Browser too.

As always – thank you for being Windows Insiders and make sure to send us feedback on any issues you run into with this build in the Feedback Hub.

Thanks,
g

Announcing Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview Build 14327
By Gabe Aul / Corporate Vice President, Engineering Systems Team

Hi everyone,

Today we are releasing Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview Build 14327 to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring.

Here’s what’s new in Build 14327 for Mobile

Try out the Messaging Everywhere Preview

You can now try out the preview of the “Messaging everywhere” feature in Windows 10 that allows you to send and receive text messages from your phone directly from your Windows 10 PC’s.

Messaging everywhere (Beta) settings on Mobile Messaging everywhere (Beta) settings on PC

1.png

To enable this:

**Make sure you are signed in with your Microsoft Account (MSA).
**On your phone – make sure “Send texts on all my Windows devices” is turned on.
**On your PC – make sure you have chosen which phone to send messages through. You do this in the settings of the Messaging app on your PC (screenshot above).

Try it out and less us know what you think via the Feedback Hub.

NOTE: You may have noticed that Skype integration in the Messaging app in this build of Windows 10 Mobile has been removed. This is so Skype can streamline your experience, replacing the integration with the Skype UWP Preview app for mobile in an upcoming build. In the meantime, you can use the existing Skype for Windows Phone app available in the Windows Store.

Cortana in more languages

With this build, we are enabling Cortana for the Spanish (Mexico), Portuguese (Brazil) and French (Canada) languages for Mobile (available previously in PC builds). If you’re running the Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview in these languages – give Cortana a try and let us know what you think. For each new market and language, the Cortana Team works to develop a custom experience that is relevant in each individual market and language. These are early versions that we will continue improve based on your feedback and we look forward to hearing more from you.

Voice input is also now available for these languages. Set focus to a text field and tap the microphone above the keyboard to give it a try.

Here’s what’s fixed for Mobile

**We fixed the issue causing Language and Speech packs to fail to download.
**We fixed the issue where in some cases your phone’s screen may not turn on and become unresponsive and Windows Hello stops working if you used the power button to lock/unlock your phone quickly.
**We fixed the issue where in some cases, users might get in a state where neither space or enter are working on the keyboard.
**We fixed the issue causing Facebook Messenger and other apps like WeChat, Transfer My Data, and UC Browser from failing to launch from Start or All apps.
**We fixed an issue where diverse emoji couldn’t be deleted from the text box in an interactive notification.
**We have updated the autocorrection logic, so you can now abort an autocorrection by tapping on the bolded word.
**We have updated the Glance screen so it will now reflect Ease of Access text scaling.
**We fixed an issue where tethering over Bluetooth wouldn’t work if Bluetooth had never been turned on before.
**We fixed an issue where you couldn’t set a sample image as a lock screen background.

Known issues for Mobile

**Feedback Hub is not localized and the UI will be in English (U.S.) only even with language packs installed.
**We’re investigating a crash with the Camera app when going into your camera roll.
**There is an issue in which you may see duplicate apps under All apps showing as pending despite being installed and usable on your phone. You may also see some apps stuck in the Store. To get out of this state, just start and pause a download in the Store and then choose to “resume all” downloads.
**You may see square boxes in certain apps when using some of the new emoji – we’re still getting support for the new emoji added throughout the systems, this will be resolved in a future build.
**There is a bug we’re investigating that prevents some apps such as Tweetium from launching.
**We’re investigating issues which cause mobile data to stop working but show as connected.
**Glance on/off setting is not respected after updating to a new build. After updating, you can reset this setting to what you had before.

As a reminder – we release builds for Mobile from our Development Branch to the list of devices that will be capable of receiving updates as part of the Windows Insider Program. As we stated previously, only devices which are eligible to receive the Windows 10 Mobile upgrade will be able to get preview builds from the Development Branch going forward.

As always – thank you for being Windows Insiders and make sure to send us feedback on any issues you run into with these builds in the Feedback Hub.

Thanks,
g

Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14328 for PC and Mobile
By Gabe Aul / Corporate Vice President, Engineering Systems Team

Hi everyone,

Today we are releasing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14328 for both PC and Mobile to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring. This build is just one build newer than the Mobile build we released on Wednesday so there isn’t a lot new for Mobile. For PC though this is a MAJOR build, packed with lots of new features and improvements including Windows Ink, updated Start, and more! With the amount of code change in this build there are going to be some rough edges, some of which are called out in the known issues below. If any of those make you uncomfortable, you may want to consider switching to the Slow ring and waiting for a later build which has a bit more stabilization on these new features. We’re very excited for you to try them out and tell us what you think.

.......

Thanks,
g

Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14332
By Gabe Aul / Corporate Vice President, Engineering Systems Team

Hi everyone,

Today we are releasing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14332 for both PC and Mobile to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring. Some languages and editions are still being propagated at the time of going live with this flight, but we expect these to be available within the hour.

The Bug Bash begins!

With this new build today for PC and Mobile – we’re officially kicking off the Bug Bash with Windows Insiders we mentioned last week. Over the course of the next 4 days, we will be publishing multiple Quests inside Feedback Hub that will highlight different areas of the product each day. We will be looking for feedback on each Quest, but you can also just use the parts of Windows and our apps you are most passionate about – the key is just to work together now through Sunday to get the best bug reports possible!

The Quests that you will see for the Bug Bash are not traditional Quests that list steps of trying a feature or scenario out. Many of them are open ended intentionally so that you can perform the steps that come naturally to you in order to finish the Quest and give us feedback on it. Many of them also list more than one scenario that can be tried out to finish the Quest. All the Quests for the Bug Bash will lead back to Feedback Hub so that you can upvote existing feedback or give new feedback based on your experience of completing the Quest. Please make sure to search for existing feedback to upvote before entering a new report.

We are also doing a few different types of Quests:

LIMITED TIME Quests: Quests marked as “LIMITED TIME” will expire within 24hrs of being published so make sure you get to these before the time runs out and they’re replaced with new Quests.

ADVANCED Quests: Quests marked as “ADVANCED” are more technical and may require changing the system configuration on your device and require an understanding on how to revert the changes after the Quest is done. You should only perform Quests that you feel comfortable doing, if something goes wrong you’ll need to be able to troubleshoot how to get back to a good state on your PC.

After you get this new build installed, open up Feedback Hub and get started. We’re REALLY excited about being able to include you for the first time on something that is part of our internal engineering culture at Microsoft. As I’ve been talking to people all week, I keep seeing big smiles and lots of excitement as people talk about how awesome it is to include Insiders as part of our activities. We hope you have fun as well, and send us some great bug reports. For more information on this week’s Bug Bash – see this post in Feedback Hub from Mike Fortin.

Here’s what’s new in Build 14332

Bash and Command Prompt Improvements: In previous builds, you may have experienced networking issues that prevented tools running in Bash on Ubuntu on Windows from being able to access the Internet. For example, you may have seen apt-get fail to find its servers and download apps. This release fixes these issues and users should no longer need to modify their resolv.conf file by hand. We also fixed an issue when calling mv between the /mnt and non-/mnt drives – files and directories will now move correctly between the two points. For more information about the Bash updates in this build, check out our release notes.

For Command Prompt, we’ve made several improvements including improved windows scaling on PCs with High-DPI displays, better font selection and rendering for international characters, several cursor rendering and hiding improvements, improved background color painting, as well as improved scrolling for nano & EMACS editors.

Cortana can now search Office 365: On your PC, Cortana can now search your content in Office 365 including your emails, contacts, calendar as well as files in OneDrive for Business and SharePoint. To get started, just add your Office 365 work or school account in the Connected Accounts section of Cortana’s Notebook. When you search, choose the appropriate filter (email, contacts, calendar, or documents) at the top to see relevant Office 365 search results. Try this out and let us know what you think!

UPDATE: Due to server-side issues happening at the moment, this capability may not work. We’re working to get these server-side issues resolved shortly. We’ll update this post once that happens!

Improved Battery Life for Connected Standby PC’s: We’ve integrated the same underlying technology that Battery Saver uses to quiet down some of the less-valuable activity that occurs during Connected Standby while still keeping your PC connected to the Internet and allowing key connectivity scenarios to work. As a result, if you’re using a Surface or other Connected Standby PC, many of you will notice improved and more consistent standby battery life.

Tip: To see if you are running a PC with Connected Standby, you can run the “powercfg /a” command from an admin Command Prompt. If the first state listed says “Standby (S0 Low Power Idle) Network Connected”, you’re running on a PC capable of Connected Standby.

While we have worked hard to get the technology behind this to work optimally for what we think will be the vast majority of users, we’d like your feedback. If you notice any major issues (things you expected to work in Connected Standby but that do not), you have 2 options:

Go into Settings > System > Battery and enable the app that you want to run during Connected Standby to “Always allowed” in the background. You can read more about these battery settings in last week’s blog post.
If you want to revert fully back to the old behavior in Connected Standby, you can run the following command lines from an admin Command Prompt:

powercfg /setdcvalueindex SCHEME_CURRENT SUB_ENERGYSAVER ESPOLICY 0

powercfg /setactive scheme_current

Note: To re-enable the new Connected Standby behavior, you can run the same command lines as above but just change ‘0’ to ‘1’.

If you find that a scenario you depend on doesn’t work in the way you expect it to, please send us feedback via the Feedback Hub!

--We fixed an issue where adding a song to Groove Music’s Now Playing list might cause the current song to stop playing and start over.
--We fixed the issue where PCs are unable to go back to a previous Insider Preview build via “Go back to an earlier build” under Settings > Update & security > Recovery if they have BitLocker/Device Encryption enabled.
--We’ve made improvements to the share UI for Cortana Reminders. The experience is much more polished now.
--We improved reliability of the Chinese IME.

--We fixed an issue where the Lock screen quick status numbers might appear drawn under the navigation bar.

Known issues for PC

--We’re adding a built-in network speed test under Settings > Network & Internet > Status however it doesn’t work just yet. The UI is there but we still have some backend work to get it turned on and working.
--Feedback Hub is not localized and the UI will be in English (U.S.) only, even with language packs installed.
--Feedback Hub takes about 20-30 minutes after updating to this build to download and hydrate itself. If Feedback Hub is not fully hydrated, if you receive a mini-survey notification it will take you nowhere in the app, search in Feedback Hub won’t show results, and if you click to go to Feedback Hub from another app or setting, Feedback will not open.
--The Desktop App Converter Preview (Project Centennial) will fail to run on the Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14332. If you are a developer utilizing the converter tool to convert your desktop app to UWP, we suggest skipping this build until we can fix this issue.
--All Tencent online games no longer work in current builds from the Development Branch.
--The updated UAC UI breaks the ALT + Y keyboard shortcut to choose “yes”.
--You may receive 0x8004C029 errors when attempting to play Groove Music Pass (DRM) content in Groove Music.
--Playing music in the Groove Music within 2 minutes after logging into your PC will result in 0xc10100ae playback errors. If you wait more than 2 minutes after logging in to play music in Groove Music you will avoid this issue.
--You may see square boxes in certain apps when using some of the new emoji – we’re still getting things set up, this will be resolved in a future build.
--We are continuing to make changes to our extension datastore schema in Microsoft Edge. As a result, after updating to this build any extensions installed will be removed. You can reinstall these extensions to get them back.
--If you are using a non-English keyboard, you can’t accept Bash prompts.
--We are investigating an issue where if you’re running Insider Preview builds in certain languages, the All apps list on Start appears empty. A workaround for this is to use search to launch apps.

Known issues for Mobile

--Speech Packs are unable to be downloaded. However, Language Packs for keyboards should download without any issues. We have identified the issue and working to get a fix out as soon as possible.
--Feedback Hub is not localized and the UI will be in English (U.S.) only even with language packs installed.
--When you navigate to your camera roll directly from the Camera app, it may crash. To view the photos taken with the Camera app, go directly to the Photos app instead to avoid the crash.
--You may receive 0x8004C029 errors when attempting to play Groove Music Pass (DRM) content in Groove Music.
--You may encounter “Can’t Play – Another app is controlling your sound right now. 0xc00d4e85” errors when attempting to play Groove Music Pass (DRM) content in Groove Music.
--You may see square boxes in certain apps when using some of the new emoji – we’re still getting support for the new emoji added throughout the systems, this will be resolved in a future build.
--There is a bug we’re investigating that prevents some apps such as Tweetium from launching.
--Your phone will lock up and reboot when it receives a notification from an app that has “Keep notifications private on the lock screen” turned on under Settings > System > Notifications & actions. This is particularly painful if you have this turned on for the Messaging app and could result in the loss of text messages. If you have this turned on for specific apps – it is recommended you turn it off until we fix this issue.
--The Settings app may crash when you are re-arranging Quick Actions under Settings > System > Notification & actions. If it does, it could result in one of the Quick Action spots disappearing. If you see this happen, please refrain from changing your Quick Action settings on this build. If you have been impacted by this issue, only a hard reset will revert your Quick Action settings back to default.
--You may see square boxes in certain apps when using some of the new emoji – we’re still getting support for the new emoji added throughout the systems, this will be resolved in a future build.

Thanks,
g

Preview Build 14342

Announcing Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview Build 14342
By Gabe Aul / Corporate Vice President, Engineering Systems Team

Hi everyone,

Today we are releasing Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview Build 14342 to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring.

Please note that due to a bug, this update will show up as 10.0.0.1001 instead of 10.0.14342.1001 under Phone update in the Settings app. We fixed this bug and doesn’t appear to be an issue for Insiders.

We are excited to announce that we have added 3 new devices to the list of devices capable of receiving updates from our Development Branch as part of the Windows Insider Program: Lumia Icon, BLU Win HD LTE 150e, and BLU Win JR 130e.

Here’s what’s new in Build 14342

Swipe navigation in Microsoft Edge: Since the release of Windows 10 Mobile, our top feedback request for Microsoft Edge has been asking for the return of the swipe gesture to navigate back and forward. With this build, you can now swipe from anywhere on the page to get back to your previous page.

Apps for websites: As we discussed at Build 2016, you will soon be able to redirect certain websites to open with an app instead. This is a new capability so apps that support this are still in progress. In preparation for their availability we have added a new page at Settings > System > Apps for websites where you will be able to manage them. Stay tuned for more on this.

Feedback Hub improvements: We’ve heard from you that it can sometimes be hard to find which category your feedback belongs in. Now when you create new feedback, the Feedback Hub will suggest categories and subcategories based on the title and description you entered. If you see a suggestion that looks right, just click it to fill in the menus and get your feedback to the right engineers quickly.

Here’s what’s fixed for Mobile

**We fixed an issue causing installation of mobile builds to fail with Error 80070002.
**Language and Speech Packs should download without any errors.
**We have fixed the issue causing DRM-protected content from services like Groove Music, Microsoft Movies & TV, Netflix, Amazon Instant Video or Hulu to fail on playback with 0x8004C029 or 0x8004C503 errors.
**We fixed the issue where some users with some non-English keyboards were not able to enter letters such as w, y, and a when typing into the address bar of the Edge browser.
**We fixed the issue causing your phone to lock up and reboot when it receives a notification from an app that has “Keep notifications private on the lock screen” turned on under Settings > System > Notifications & actions.
**We increased font size and improved spacing of the data migration page after receiving an update.
**Polished icons used to identify pages in the Settings app – in particular, updated battery icon to be more consistent with the weight of the other icons.
**Improved performance when retrieving updated GPS coordinates while driving.
**Goodbye message on shutdown will now remain visible until the last moment, to make it easier to determine when your device is off.
**Polished the look of media controls on the Lock screen. When you press one of the media control buttons, it appears “pressed”.
**We fixed an issue where some apps, including Tweetium, would crash on launch.
**We fixed an issue where Action Center’s context menus would appear in the wrong orientation if the app underneath was in landscape mode.
**We fixed an issue where Lumia 435, 532, 535 and 540 would fail to record video, as well as an issue where advanced camera settings were not preserved when taking a photo with the Lumia 435, resulting in the photo being taken with default settings instead.
**Fixed an issue where the same device might be listed multiple times under Connect.
**Fixed an issue where quickly pressing the power button twice when Windows Hello is enabled could result in the display appearing stuck off.
**We fixed the issue where Groove Music might show an error saying “Can’t play – Another app is controlling your sound right now”.
**When delayed lock is setup, Windows Hello will now say “Swipe up to dismiss the lock screen”, rather than looking for your iris.
**We fixed an issue where Glance wouldn’t be displayed when hovering hand over proximity sensor.
**We fixed an issue where multiple UWPs might start crashing on launch after getting stuck on their splash screen.

Known issues for Mobile

**UPDATE: After your device reboots from installing this update, if it gets stuck as the Windows logo – let it sit and be patient. It might appear frozen but its still working in the background. While you wait, it is recommended you plug your phone in and let it charge as well. For more details – see this forum post.
**We are investigating data issues with some Dual-SIM devices where cellular data doesn’t work correctly with a second SIM. Several issues relating to cellular data with Dual-SIM devices have been reported by Insiders with the last two Mobile builds and we’re investigating these reports.
**Feedback Hub is not localized and the UI will be in English (U.S.) only, even with language packs installed.
**We have reduced the number of instances where boxes are seen when entering emoji. You may still see them in some text fields – we’re working on it!
**The Settings app may crash when you are re-arranging Quick Actions under Settings > System > Notification & actions. If it does, it could result in one of the Quick Action spots disappearing. If you see this happen, please refrain from changing your Quick Action settings on this build. If you have been impacted by this issue, only a hard reset will revert your Quick Action settings back to default.

Other items of note

Just like we noted for Build 14342 for PC, we have removed the Wi-Fi Sense feature that allows you to share Wi-Fi networks with your contacts and to be automatically connected to networks shared by your contacts. The engineering effort to keep this working great, combined with low demand for the feature made it not worthwhile to keep investing in it. Wi-Fi Sense, if enabled, will continue to get you connected to open Wi-Fi hotspots that it knows about through crowdsourcing.

As always – thank you for being Windows Insiders and make sure to send us feedback on any issues you run into with these builds in the Feedback Hub.

Thanks,
g

I forget where I read it, but MS/Nokia is keeping alive some of the higher end models such as the 950....at least for now. Since WinTen Mobile can be installed on Android phones I don't understand why MS continues with their own hardware in this venue when many of the other options are mature and robust as well as well known in the marketplace. My lack of understanding of this only implies that Nadella and I don't hang out together on weekends.
