OK, i got an old PC here:

PSU: Corsair VS550
MB: MSI Z68A-GD65 (G3)
CPU: i7 2600
RAM: 2 x 4gb DDR-3 1600Mhz
SDD: PLEXTOR PX-128 M5 Pro SSD (+2 HDs)
GPU: MSI Radeon 6850
standard HD (1920x1080) Monitor

overclocking is due to general high temperatures here not really an option so rather have solid but good than cheap but pushed to the limit.

I wonder if it would make sense to just update to GPU to something like an nNividea GTX 960 or leave it and use it until i really cant anymore and just exchange it all.
For most stuff this old machine does well, just starts to struggle at games of course.

Thanks for any good advice!

I'm rocking a 2600K with a gtx 970, all without issue. This cpu is still relevant, and has plenty of horse power. See my sig.

Agreed. I can not justify an upgrade right now.

My 2600K and SLI 680's still wreck everything at 1080 and perform fine for my 5760 X 1080 needs.

Upgrade the GPU and be done.

I'd grab a 970 if you can swing the extra dollars, but the 960 paired with your system will be solid for sure.
