Overclocking Q9300

I have the Q9300 running at the default 2.50 Ghz, and i'm looking into overclocking it to at or around 3.0 Ghz.I am new to overclocking,and have no idea what i'm doing.

My mother board is the P5K3 deluxe.
I have 4gb of DDR3 ram
I have the GTX 650 video card

Can anyone help me with it?

what model ram, power supply and heat sink are you using?

My heat sink is the one that came with the processor I think.

Until you get better cooling I would hold off on the overclocking.

...check it out and give it a whirl while paying specific attention to temperatures because of your stock cooler. You should be able to get a couple hundred MHz out of it with the stock cooler, but not much more...

If Windows reports a bus/interconnect error, you must raise the FSB termination voltage.
This issue appears to be common with Core 2 Quads.

That may be true, but.............. is this person having this issue? He hasn't said a word yet!??!!
