I'm planning to purchase a set speakers and subwoofer to connect to my ASUS Essence STX II. Does anyone have any recommendations on a amp for my setup?

Items I'm planning to get:
2 x Adam Audio A7X
1 x BIC America F12 or SVS PB2000 12"

Go with a digital amplifier. The STX would then just be an expensive interface unless you have good headphones to use with it.

Note that the analog inputs should only be used as a last resort (which basically means never with a decent PC) since they're equivalent to the VGA input on a LCD monitor.

The real crux is if you want to have a quality, inexpensive 2.1 receiver / amplifier, or if you want one that will some day support surround sound. But your speakers are active... So you shouldn't (hypothetically) need any amplification.
