sony vaio not booting

My daughters netbooks stopped working
It's got a two tone sound on boot up, I've googled what the tone is one site says cpu and another says memory.
It boots with the viao screen and thats it!
I've tried new memory and thats made no difference.
Can it be fixed or is it time for the bin?
Its a sony vaio pcg-21313m

Looks like an old model. It has 1GB DDR2 and an old single core Atom CPU.
I, personally, would just replace the whole thing.

Thats kinda what I'm thinking but she rarely uses it.

Maybe a cheap tablet is a better idea then?
