Today will be another G.Skill memory kit. This time it's F4-3200C16D-8GVK so Ripjaws V 2x4GB DDR4-3200 CL16-16-16 1.35V , designed for Skylake.

I'm testing it on ASUS Maximus VIII Hero motherboard and you can count I will add some more results in next days/weeks.

The same as 2x8GB kit, also 2x4GB is based on Samsung IC and main timings are also the same so 16-16-16-36.
Memory has programmed one XMP profile which is working without issues on mentioned ASUS motherboard.

Maximum clock for now DDR4-4050 but all CPU-Z validation files were corrupted so here is screenshot at DDR4-4001

hi woomack and thanks for your hard work on memory

I got a couple of question, I heard it's better to have 4x4 (16) than 8x8 (16)
Also can I buy 2x the 8gb kit to make a 4x4 ? Or will this a bad idea (it's known to be bad on X99 platforms).

Taking into account this, I would like to buy 2 kits of 8gb (2x4). Probably this one kit, or https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-067-TG&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=2556

What do you suggest as maximum overvoltage
Is cooling necessary ? I've seen fans from gskill
I could do watercooling with ram block but I heard it's not usefull

What's your point on all of this ?

Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions

You can check tests of the same kit but in 2x8GB here http://www.overclockers.com/forums/...x8GB-)-DDR4-3200-CL16-1-35V-F4-3200C16D-16GVK

2x4GB will overclock higher = max stable ~3466-3866 depends from motherboard
2x8GB will overclock worse than 2x4GB regardless of motherboard = max about 3333-3466
4x4GB will overclock slightly better than the 2x8GB but worse than 2x4GB because of the platform limitations = I'm not sure about max but something about 3466-3600 looking how 2x4GB kit is working in different memory slots

If you are going to overclock memory but will use PC for gaming mainly then best is to get 2x8GB.
If you are going to overclock memory for competitive benchmarking then best will be 2x4GB
4x4GB for Skylake isn't best idea and will be harder to sell it later. If you are planning to use it on Haswell-E then 4x4GB is the best idea.

I was testing 2x4GB and 2x8GB Ripjaws V 3200 kits on Z170 and X99. On Z170 I already said what were the results while on X99 in both cases I stuck at about 3333-3400 pretty stable clock ... but in dual channel as I had 2 sticks from each kit only.
