Came across a couple cisco 1800 series routers 1811 v05 to be exact. I have no experience with these and wanted to sell them off. First I need to know if anyone has dealt with these and what procedures to use to restore this back to defaults.

Thank you in advance. I looked online for manual but cant seem to locate what i need.

From what I gather I need to telnet or tera term into and use cmd's. Cant find any noob guides to walk through telnet setup etc from step 1. Everything Ive read already jumps into cmd line entries.

You most likely won't be able to get in via telnet since they're used. You'll have to connect to the onboard serial port to access the console. There should be a connector on the back labeled like 'console' or something. It will either be serial or RJ45. If RJ45, you'll need a RJ45->Serial cable and a USB/serial converter cable if you don't have a serial port available on your machine. If it's standard serial, you'll still need a usb/serial cable and a null modem cable.

ok yes it has a rj45 console port .. so ill look into a cable .. are these even worth saving in your opinion ? Other than trying to configure one for fun ?

Are they gigabit? If not, I'd get rid of them. I recently got rid of a stack of 10/100 switches that were taking up room in my closet.. picked up a few Powerconnect gigabit switches instead.

Good lab router with integrated switch.
If you power them on at boot up they will tell you if password recovery is enabled during post. you need a role-over cable from cisco ie

or legacy

any student should be able to reset password or do a complete clear and reset defaults.
all guides to get started can be found here:

perhaps consider this a good reason to become certified.
