This build (in signature) is going on almost 7 years now, I built it on a modest budget back then mostly going with low power entry-med level stuff.
I think its time for an upgrade and since newegg just sent me an x99 board for their review program, I could actually build more of a powerhouse pc this time around

I already have a

Gigabyte X99-UD3P
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128772

And these are the things I just purchased:

Intel Core-i7 5820k (there was a promocode so I got it for $375)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117402

Kingston HyperX Fury 16GB (2x8GB) 2666mhz (promocode brought it down to $94)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104573

Corsair TX750w (refurb)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139128

Cooler Master v8 skt 2011 bracket
http://www.cmstore-usa.com/intel-retention-bracket-set-for-lga2011/

I will eventually upgrade the graphics card once I find a good deal on an r9 390 and upgrade to a full tower case, like the cooler master storm trooper
But for now Im just going to reuse the stuff I have.

Originally I was gonna wait for the psu too but probably as soon as I put the one I have under load it probably would have fried it or just cause shutdowns, its
probably only had ever had 350w max or so load on it. The Tx750 refurb was also a good price ($10 more then I paid for my current one) too so I pulled the trigger on it, and I would like to overclock this cpu.

And finally the ram, I was goning to just get an 8GB kit 2x4GB for like $58 but the price on the hyperx and other memory shot up for some unknown except for a few kits, I was originally gonna set it up for quad channel but the price was good for 16GB of good quality ram, even in dual channel which doesnt make that much of a difference.

Personally, I'd return the PSU and get a quality unit that isn't a refurb.
The EVGA SuperNova G2 650W would be a great fit.

It's a solid PSU. You're rolling the dice on refurbs since someone returned it for some reason, but if you got it for less than $50-60, it's probably a good deal.

I would have gone quad channel, since you have the platform for it.

Wait, is there a question here? haha

I was just looking for opinions and might change it into a build log once I get everything togther.

I can always go quad channel later on if I want, maybe when the price gets better (though 32GB would be way overkill).

just a small update, still waiting for the hsf bracket...
About a week after I ordered the 5820k Intel added a promotion if you buy select CPU's you get 3 free games (Just Cause 3, CS:GO, and World of Warships) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16800985064 , I contacted newegg live chat and they sent me the voucher via email, so that turned out great :D

Keeping my eye on bf/cm sales for gpu's, not seeing anything yet though

I was looking around for full tower cases and found these

CM Storm Trooper
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119297
The only thing I dont really like is the price and the side window isnt that big near the top of the motherboard and will cut off the hsf view

Phanteks Enthoo Pro
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811854003
Like the huge window, price, tons of gromets, the only thing is the front panel makes the case look pretty cheap, I also dont care for where the USB and power buttons are located

Phanteks Enthoo Luxe
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811854006
Seems to be exactly the same as the Enthoo Pro except a different finish and led's, not really worth the extra $50, would probably just be better to get the Enthoo Pro and this instead https://store.nzxt.com/products/hue-plus-rgb-led-lighting-kit

anyone have any other suggestions? I need 3 external 5.25" bays and would prefer if one of those bays had a 5.25" to 3.5" conversion tray for card reader
Also want a big side window, no mesh windows or giant fans on the side panel
and in black

I had an Enthoo Pro for a hot minute. Awesome case. I've also built in the Fractal Arc Midi and Define R4 & R5. Comparable to the Phanteks in build quality. I think those had the features you're after?

okay so the bracket finally came in so I went to work

New hardware going in

testing everything out before transfer to case, here is where I encountered problems, I has the case speaker and trying to trouble shoot beep codes, first it was the ram, then an unknown error kept poping up, turns out the cpu bracket was tightened too much, I just loosed it a bit and got the single beep saying the system was good

and finally everything in he case (minus the led's for now)

Good morning,

Keep up the great work.

I wanted to chime in and say that when I did my build 3 months prior, I purchased EVGA 220-P2-1200-X1 80 PLUS Platinum 1200 W for my setup. As you said, it was the best on the market and was highly recommended by many builders I spoke to. I purchased the power supply new and never ran into an issue. If you could save the cost on something, why not.

triple fan mod for the v8 is done, idle temps lowered about 10c, load temps lowered almost 20c @ 4.2ghz
its not exactly pretty but it does the job

fans going in, both 120mm, fan that came with the case with and a delta fan
DSC02590_zpsh5chzobu.jpg~original

fans on the hsf, just used zip ties since it was free and quick

DSC02591_zpso65h8ofm.jpg~original

and load temps at 4.2ghz after 5 mins of prime95

Joe 88, just an FYI I have a similar Apevia case I used a while back. I wasn't getting very good temps with my Oc so I decided to get a newer case with better airflow through it. My temps dropped by about 7c by doing so.

Just purchased an enthoo pro and will be buying an r9 390 later this week on bf

the front needs a bit of work, I already ordered the 5.3" to 3.5" bay converter, should be here soon, and I need to spray paint the silver piece

DSC02622_zpsnn9jia3c.jpg~original

and if you are wondering what the silver thing is, its a 5.3" spring loaded storage box

got the converter bay installed and I spray painted the aluminum cover
it came out really crappy though, uneven spots, paint feel rough, I used semi-gloss paint + primer, the spray paint just did not want to stick to it, I sanded it a bit and washed it with soap and water before hand
probably just gonna end up sanding it down and redoing it then hit it with a thin coat of polyurethane
at least its black now and doesn't really stand out
