I'd get the 850 EVO over that, especially since it's $15 cheaper and 20GB more storage.

Performance-wise, the 850 is worse off though, I thought. Is that not true?

Cheapest I've seen decent 4TB drives I think was about $150

I'll probably be taking a plunge on Toshiba's new X300 lineup myself for testing. The WD Blacks I run are starting to get louder, both of them with one getting a bit worse, so I'll pick up the Toshibas here soon then talk to WD about replacing these drives.

+1 We've had a bad failure rate with Seagate at work. ~ 7% failure rate with Seagate/Samsung on about 250 units. Compared to ~1% with WD on about 500. HGST has the best reviews right now but we all know that over time, these things tend to change.

I was looking at those the other day, and did a quick search to get some background. They are marketing them for the high end market but they dropped the warranty down from 3 years to two compared to the previous gen that had 3 years:

How old are your blacks? All of the blacks I have had have lasted over 6-yrs of daily use. My Velociraptors (Raid-0) lasted 7.5 years before they started to go.

well crap, should have jumped on it while it was there. Its back up to $240 and cant get a 4GB for under $200 right now.

Same price through the HiFi store on Amazon. Just ordered a pair as an early Christmas present to myself
