My son is wanting computer parts for Christmas, he's big into gaming and wants a great computer for that. I know nothing about computers, only how to use them, somewhat lol. His current computer is home built and has lasted him a long time. He is getting ready for college and is wanting something that's going to get him thru his college years. My budget is pretty tight, he did give me a list of what he wants. So I'm looking for opinions on his choices, I want to get him something thats going to last so if someone would want to look these over and let me know what you think or offer other suggestions that would be wonderful. I need to stay pretty much in this price range though, cheaper would be great!! Thanks*

What is your budget? You mentioned 'this price range' but as Joe88 said, the linky thing isn't up to snuff.

Also, it may be better to wait until the day after Christmas to buy as there are a lot of great deals to be had after the Christmas shopping days as vendors look to liquidate inventory just as they do for small tools and linens, etc. Give him a promisary note in the meantime.

it's an fx 8320 with a gigabyte motherboard of some sort.
seeing that combo scares me as it might not live till christmas.

well, as I said, that board will not live till christmas, and it will take the rest if the rig out with it.

yes Mr.Scott and it was me!!!!!
please look at an I5 6400 based build.... please, save me from being right.....

yea, it was an msi board then guess what was next........ a gigabyte board.

Susana, most of the linked hardware is decent and other than finding the best deal you can on the items, we're not going to be able to save you that much.

Are you talking about the motherboard?? I'm not very computer literate. Is there another one you recommend? Do I need to change everything else or will it all fit with the new board?

Yes, Caddi is referring to the motherboard. It is not one we usually recommend. A recommended board of better quality is going to cost you a little more.

Caddi's idea of an Intel setup might be a better option. I'll let the other member's throw some suggestions for that.

read that it's for his SON, SONS do stuff like that.............

Can you provide a budget please? I know "tight", but a $ target will help us cut costs where they need to be shaved.
Do you need just the tower (Case and everything inside) or do you need a keyboard/mouse/monitor too?

Hoping to stay under $800 yes just the tower, he has a great new mouse and keyboard, I was pretty proud of myself with those!

I know, I know......I have a couple.
My philosophy is " I got you a Corvette. If you want a 10 second Corvette, that's on you."
