Hi, i have some troubles trying to find a soundcard in my country (im from mexico) with optical support so i can connect my headset. But in every store that i ask they say that people dont buy more soundcards cause motherboards can give you a decent quallity too. So i tried to buy one online with the optical support not all stores ship to mexico and the shipping cost are sometimes a little bit high and the shipping time usually takes more than a month. Finally i found one on amazon that ships to mexico http://www.amazon.com/Blaster-Performance-Headphone-For...
but then i asked in my local store for a motherboard with optical support and i74790 support and they recommend me this http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=...
The price is basically the same between the soundcard and the motherboard. I know that probably you get better audio with the soundcard, but this motherboard has more features, also, in the motherboard page it says that can support 7.1 surround and the soundboard says 5.1, so right know idont know what is a better investment.
Thank you

Your links don't work, can you fix them?

Sound quality will be the same via Optical connections, but what headphones are you using?

Sorry about the links.
this is the motherboard http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4997#ov
and this is the soundcard http://www.amazon.com/Blaster-Perfo...id=1451505976&sr=1-1&keywords=sound+blaster+z
Also in the store they told me the same, that often it bypasses most of the features of the sound using the optical cable, so the sound quality is basically the same, but i thought they were just trying to sell me the motherboard XD.
Im using an Astro A50 headset.

They were absolutely correct in store :)
Given cost being roughly the same, I would choose the motherboard. Reason being, you can sell the old motherboard.

Perfect, just wanted to make sure the headset indeed had an optical input!

Why do that when you can just use the A50 via USB?

Yes, he does. The sound card is the same price as the motherboard.

Hi, the manual says that to get the best quality sound you should use the optical cable, because if your using usb your not getting dolby, do you think there is a big difference between usb and optical?

Ah, I forgot that USB doesn't use Dolby.

You can cut surround on/off, see if it makes a big difference to you.

One of the buttons on the top of the transmitter, I believe.
It has been a while since I sold my A50's
