Can I use DDR3 2400 RAM @ 1.65V with the 4790k?

AIDA64, Maxxmem...

Since the speed is the same (right?) you wont see much difference at all. Capacity only makes a difference if you are using it/over what you have. ;)

Awesome, thanks.

I will test my 8GB 4x2 Dominator 1600 first, then the Trident-X 2400 32 gb 4x8.

I've never used AIDA, can you walk me through what I should run? I assume memory but not sure how I should set up the test.

Thanks again.

There isn't a setup, you go to cache and memory bechmark, hit start. Same with Maxxmem.. hit start. :)

Can also try geekbench which has memory benchmark too. Free version is 32b but for comparison it's the same as 64b.

This is the Dominator 1600, are the blocked boxes showing "Trial Version" pertinent data?

Edited to add Maxxmem

Will do...here's the Geekbench.

Again, this is for the 4x2gb Dominator 1600 I'm not sure which graphs we need to worry about but this is the whole test.

The memory performance is what one would want to see since that is what you are getting baselines for. If you are curious about the rest, then show those too! :)

Will do....as soon a I get my cooling under control....but I'm on it.....;)

Tomorrow we can get to OC'ng, but here's a comparison of the Dominator 1600 and the Trident-X 2400. Both are not OC'd and are using their XMP profiles.

Dominator 1600: 8-8-8-24 @ 1.65V
Trident-X 2400 : 10-12-12-31 @ 1.65V

Please forgive my cut and paste abilities....:)

From a performance standpoint, would it be more beneficial to use only 2 sticks (16gb total) for the time being, could I use tighter timings with 16 instead of 32? I did a quick render and the G-Skill 32GB RAM rendered slightly faster than the Dominator. Just thinking about when I OC the CPU and for rendering tasks.

Timings and speeds that you can use will depend on the exact sticks you have and your IMC.
