Is it ok to assume that the usb hub built into this display is actually powered by the monitor and not the link used to connect to pc usb port ?

Idea is to link my Rasperry Pi to monitor via usb and then use the monitors hub to power devices such as an external HDD. Sound ok to you ?

SOLVED !! THANKS !!

Yes, the hub should be powered through the monitor.
One way to test, plug in your phone to the monitor with the PC disconnected, it should still charge.

Yep, should be fine to power from, just check the manual for any current limitations.

Thanks for quick response !! And awesome idea with testing with phone !!

edit :
2.5 watts max on usb ports and thats not so great but it will help take load off of the pi itself... I can always run external usb to power from a cell phone charger (2+ amps ) to power my 2.5" hdd...
