First of my Becooling Jagged Edge Waterblock, I cleaned the Tarnish off it yesterday to notice that the white seal was removed from the fittings. (see pic)
yet it still seems to be water tight, is this ok?

Next I've bought (see pic) a Black (coated for tarnishing) Vid Block, my 8500 has no mounting holes so if I mount it with Epoxy will it ever come off???

Cheers!

1st - the "white seal" pictured....is thread tape. If the fittings were NOT removed, any tape that comes off is no problem.
There is more tape on the threads, between them and what it's screwed into. You can get a roll of it at any AutoParts store for cheap-cheap, if you need to redo the tape job. (if you removed the fittings)

2nd - epoxy...I don't mess with the stuff much. Only in Automotive applications. In My Opinion....:D ...Once it's epoxied on, No, I don't think you can get it back off. Without breaking the vid card in some way. (What a way to thro $35 or so bucks onto next months "outdated" vid card huh?)

AS makes a epoxy suitable for that application.

Good Luck.

If you mix 1 part AS Thermal Adhesive to 1 part AS Thermal compound by weight you will be able to remove the vcard wb in the future w/o damage.

Thanks, nope the fittings weren't removed.

I've got Arctic Alumina Epoxy, AS3, AS2 and Radioshack white stuff.
Problem being that I want it to be non-conductive, but can it really spew off???
I mean Ramsinks maybe but the chip is big....

So its 1 part AS3, with 1 part AS Epoxy?
Have a

That white stuff is probably Teflon Tape. If you didn't
remove the fittings there shouldn't be a problem. Use
some fresh tape if you remove the barbs.

This is the same stuff plumbers use. Cool stuff!!:)

if u want non conductive then u might want to buy

arctic alumina
arctic alumina thermal epoxy

mix the 2 together and use

non conductive and can be removed at a later date

what scares me though is that if u dont use enough epoxy, then the weight of the water block will weigh down and come off the vid card and u wont notice for some time. in fact, until u play a game u probably wont notice. i would prefer to use full strength active silver/alumina epoxy and that way it stays stuck to the vid. card. however, u will have tough time taking the thing apart at a later date.

what u could do is in future buy geforce series of cards and cuz they have holes for mounting waterblocks, there will be no problems.

Thanks but I've already sorted it out!

I will mix a bit of AS3 with the Epoxy. (Alumina is another $10!!!)
The Vid Block isn't that heavy so it won't make a difference in weight. It doesn't really effect the bonding stength either.

You see when you Epoxy them together with full strength adhesive they never come apart.....I think!

Thanks anyway,

yes, but if u "dilute" the epoxy (by adding as3), then the bonding strength will weaken, surely this could lead to bond failure. Now, if u were sticking a light heasink on, this would be ok, however, a waterblock is quite heavy, and at this weight, u might have to use full strength epoxy. anyway, whatever u do, tell us about it so we can learn from your experience.

i too want to watercool my grafix card, however, i dont feel comfortable epoxying the waterblock to the grafix card.

nick - mixing the epoxy with paste will work fine, just make sure you let it set for a while as the bond will be weaker.

and you are right in thinking that if you use full strength epoxy it will not move.

the teflon tape that appers to be missing will just be lower down so you cannot see it. infact the teflon tape above the surface is useless.

btw. have you sorted out a volatge adaptor for the pump?

Nope,

Unfortunately it needs to be for CONTINUAL 24/7 use and has to have a 15+ Watt rating.
The argos one looks ok but I was told by John Lewis (they stock the same one) that I need a specialised one from a Garden Centre. (they strongly recommended)

So I'm stuck, I need it to be 100% reliable (as I tested the autoshutdown and it doesn't work) and I don't want to risk the pump...

Oh well!
I'll figure it out sometime, until then I still have to await the shipments.....

I have the same water block in my system and would recommend that you flush it out prior to use. I did not as it looked well made and clean but it had tiny copper flakes inside. When I first started it up I saw tiny bits of copper shoot through my system. I contacted Be Cooling on this and they felt, that if it was only a small amount and they were sticking to the tube walls (they are) I shouldn't have a problem. But I recommend you flush yours out first and avoid the problem all together. The only harm would be if they traveled around and went back through the pump either enough to wear it out or jam it up. Maybe this doesn't apply but is Just a point to ponder.
