only those that like to build small pc's, which i have gotten into doing. ever since i picked up a mITX mobo for a first mobile i3, using a Pico-PSU. now if you want gaming in a small form factor with a sfx psu you only really had one option a 450watt was the biggest. now you have a bit more power in a really small box! i wonder how this psu will stack and i hope we will see something come out of jonnyguru.com from OW himself on this little prize. some may think it small but you have consider how much smaller SFX is vs ATX, for me. Since i dont go all out using all these HD's or DVD/BD drives i think some of these will go do waste. i cant be the only one using 1-2 drives in his pc with a mild OC on the cpu. i really doubt that needing more then 500w even for a top tier 1080 is going to be called for.

That is nice to see some more options. I went with the EVGA Hadron (the hydro version only because the air was out of stock at the time) because it came with a small PSU. If it wasn't for the fact I have SLI at the moment I probably would have used it for my main system after setting it up. 500 watts is plenty for me, like you I have 2 drives in my main PC both of which are SSD and I have no optical. Mines even running a 7970 24/7 folding with a slightly OC'd 4690k which has a higher TDP than many newer cards.

1U rackmount PSUs are available as large as 1600W. A good use case is a compact gaming HTPC with built in home theater amplifier. If you allow 500W for the PC itself (good luck trying to reach that with a single GPU, SLI easily can but then it's hardly "compact"), that leaves 1100W for audio, plenty for all but the most extreme of home theaters. For bonus points, have the finished unit be smaller than most of the audio receivers on the market.

in a psu that compact, that doesnt cost $300+ or the 2kw unit thats over 1k.

Currently $35, but I once got one brand new for $20. It's "only" 1200W but that's still a whole lot of power.

If you're curious what's inside:

For somewhat more modest power requirements, here's a 750W 1U PSU for $15, although there is a little bit of a bulk discount:

im talking new, not used and not proprietary to the case/system..

Those units on Amazon are brand new except the ones specifically marked as used. All you have to do to use it is bridge two pins to turn it on and it just supplies 12V. Just ignore the fancy power monitoring features.
