DX12 multiadapter functionality: will it be transparent to games developers?

I've read here that SLI and Xfire require games to be specifically coded to take advantage of those features, will DX12 multiadapter functionality require games to be specifically coded to take advantage of this functionality or will it be transparent to games developers/programmers?
 
Having been a developer and worked with client and server side it's never transparent on PCs, too different - OS patch levels, hardware etc... but you deal with it. Consoles are just totally fixed - patch level, hardware etc... or just fewer versions to test and create fixes for. Don't get me wrong if it works on 80% of the ecosystem with out issues that's transparent, you can't have everything...
