Chevy Heater Core

Measuring the bottom inside of my case from the wall outwards, it's 5 1/2 inches. I went by measurements of the ebay seller I got the core from, he posted 5 inches. I figured I had 1/2 an inch clearance. Lay the core down on the 140mm fans just to see how I'm going to mount it, and then it hits me. Core is a bit wider than 5 inches. More like 6 inches. Dam core won't fit :bang head

I can still mount it, but then I can't use the side panel to close the case up

Damn thats a bummer. Im taking a look at it and it looks like the left and right outer edges are just incasing fins. You could most likely remove either or both the outer rows and leave the water channels in tact to reduce the width.

I've checked that and there's noway of separating the sides off from the rest of the core :-/ I'm going to check to see if I can mount it in the front, but that means moving my platter drives to another location. It's all painted and ready to go too :(

I can prolly go with a XSPC EX240 at the bottom. There's one on [H] for cheap.

*Update*

Added the core to my loop. So far so good. Still bleeding, but card temps seem to be in check. And the best part is I managed to put the side panel back on ;)

Was only able to use the top thumb screw, but the panel is on!

Mount it on the back? You're running soft tubing, so a couple holes, rubber grommets, and you can get it mounted outside the case?

Oooo bob! That's a nice build! Yeah I mounted rads in the back before, but I didn't have enough tubing, just enough to run it at the bottom. I'm good tho, thx for the suggestion!

I'll post pics up tomorrow.

JB weld has saved my bacon more times than I can count. Leaky oil pans, CNC lathe turrets. The stuff is amazing.

Always have some on hand.

Keep the pics coming.

I got 6 BitFenix Pro BFF-SPRO-P12025WW-RP on top for push/pull on my RX360 rad (top down airflow), I also have 6 Phanteks PH-F140SP_BK. 2 front intakes, 2 rear exhaust, 2 bottom exhaust.

All set up on the fan hub @ med. I've got excellent airflow thru the case ;)

The heater core is laying ontop of the bottom fans, and the fans are pulling air from the top down and out the bottom.

What kinda load temps?

or rather, any improvement? Or its just helping consistency?

After about an hour or so, vid card temps stayed @ 48-50ish during gaming. Not once did the pc reboot or shut down due to temps ;) Still in the bleed process tho, so I'm sure my temps will improve a bit more.

awesome

Nice work neb looks good and helps the temps too.

Interesting that you chose to exhaust through the bottom. Can I ask why?

I actually do the same with my rig. Top and front intake, rear bottom exhaust. I live in a very dusty area, and my computer used to sit on the carpet, so it gathered a lot more dust and crap if I did bottom intake.
