Basically you use your computer to fold virtual proteins for medical research. One of many things you can do with your hardware. Others include SETI (use your computer to find E.T.) etc.

Yes, an Intel rig would give a couple FPS increase, but the FX is hardly a huge issue.

Depends on how much $ that couple FPS means to you.A loss of FPS is a loss of FPS no matter how small
