Would you please compare these two PSUs, other than one being non-modular and the other being modular?

Newegg (where it's more expensive) is listing this EVGA as being JonnyGURU Recommended Award 9 out of 10 but how does it stack against the Corsair RM850?

The Corsair uses lower grade capacitors, but has slightly better ripple suppression vs the Supernova. Fan made a bit of noise during testing.
The Supernova has higher quality capacitors and the fan doesn't make a noise like the Corsair did for Jeremy. Ripple suppression on the 12v rail was 50mV which is good just not as good as we've seen in the past.

I vote for the Supernova. the point difference is a mere 0.2. The Corsair got 9.2 and the Supernova got 9. Should have gotten more but points IMO, but points were deducted for being semi-modular. I have 2 Supernova PSU's in the house and they are both of very high quality. I won't ever buy another brand for PSU's again.

I do not think that you should directly compare these 2 psu as one is gold rated and one is bronze the one is also 100watts larger.

A better comparison would be a cx750m vs the evga psu. This puts them in the same price range, efficiency level, and wattage. In which case definitely evga, this is due to reported voltage variation and lower end caps on the Corsair unit.

A fair comparison for the RM850 would be the Supernova 850g2. In this case I would also go with EVGA as it offers a better price and seems too perform better.

Exactly.

I also question your NEED for so much wattage. Typically 750W+ is dual gpu territory. What system are these units going in? You can likely get, say an evga 500b or 550g2 and save yourself $50+...

Think about reviews... a stock 6700k and gtx 1070 with overclocked heavily manged to peak at 290W at the wall (90% efficiency so ~260W actual). Add another 50W to overclock the cpu and we don't break 350W. This is also on a watercooled system, so a pump, 4 fans, 2 hdd, and 3 ssd's.

I am not comparing these to buy (that wouldn't make much sense) , I am comparing them because I already have both and wanted to know what I would gain or lose by using one or the other, and rather than doing research, I posted a thread on ocforums.

Sounds like the big picture is that even if you like EVGA, if the RM850 is already installed, it's not worth the time spent taking it out and putting in the EVGA, correct?
If that were not the scenario, then yes all already posted comments stand, of course.
Sorry for not clarifying that.

That's how I'm seeing it.
Both are excellent units :)

There is absolutely nothing you will gain by using a Tier 1 PSU vs Tier 2. If you are talking efficiency, you can do the math on the difference in efficiency tiers between the bronze and gold (2%) times the load, and amount of time you run at load. You will find that unless you run at load 24/7 (mining/folding) you won't make up the difference in total cost of ownership. ;)

Okay, good.
Thank you all.

That EVGA is still in stock at $39.99 after rebate, I am keeping it in reserve.
