Converting to DVI

Is there any reason to get choosey about DP or HDMI when converting to DVI-I ? I am looking at new GPUs and most come with only 1 DVI output. After that I will have to get an adapter, and I wonder if there is any reason to go one way or the other (DP or HDMI). My guess is that either will be "downclocked" to DVI max output range? TIA

The DVI video signal is the same as that of the HDMI. Only difference is that HDMI also carries audio.
