UPDATE: COMPARISON BENCHMARKS
So at the last update I teased an image of dismalDIRGE's rig on my test bench. So I decided to do some comparative benching with my i7-4790k. While these two CPU are not in a competitive market together I was curious how they would fare against each other. Some results were expected but there was a surprise or two in there. Now, I want to appologize for the length of this post as there will be a lot of data. If benching is not your thing then you'll likely want to skip this post. TL
R Ryzen performs well in Multi-thread but lacks single thread pazazz.
Here are the two test subjects.
[oldtable]Test Subjects | dismalDIRGE | FreezerBURN
CPU | R5-1600X OC'd to 4.0Ghz| i7-4790k UC'd to 4.0Ghz (and Stock 4.4Ghz)
Motherboard | ASUS Prime X370 Pro | ASRock Z97 OC Formula
Ram | Avixer DDR4 2x8GB 2400 CL16 | GSkill DDR3 2x4Ghz 2133 CL9 (OC'd to 2400 CL10)
Cooler & TIM | CM 212X & Stock CM TIM | CM 212X & Stock CM TIM
GPU | EVGA 1070 SC (stock) | EVGA 1070 SC (stock)
PSU | EVGA 850GQ | EVGA 850GQ
SSD | Samsung 850 EVO 240GB | Samsung 850 EVO 240GB
* All GPU testing was done @ 1080 resolution on the same monitor for consistency
** All testing was done at a stock setting without disabling any Windows or background Software
*** The R5 was OC'd to 4.0Ghz on all 6 cores (how it will run 24/7) and the i7 was UC'd to 4.0Ghz for IPC comparison as well as run at stock 4.4Ghz for a true comparison

Here are the screen shots of the two systems as they are set-up.

So with the set-ups out of the way here are the results from the 2D benchmarks. All benches were run 5 times consecutively. I will report the best score and the average results for all benches. Screenshot inside of the spoiler to help those poor souls with bad interweb speeds.

As expected Ryzen excelled in the multi-threaded benchmarks but fell behind in the single threads. Nothing too surprising here. Now on to the 3D benchmarks we look at Unigine Heaven, TimeSpy, and Firestrike.

So what I found surprising was the results from the 4790k at stock (4.4Ghz) were lower than the underclocked 4.0Ghz scores. I can only assume there must have been some instability with the down clock. All the other tests seems consistent so I'm not sure what's going on with Firestrike but here are the results.
Stay tuned in the next day or two as I start revealing the actual assembly. Oh and if you've made it this far into the post you'll be glad to hear the next update will feature the first of the case mods.
