ok so i have the chance to snag a used 280X amd gpu for 60 dollars but before i go out an buy it i wanna make sure it will play the games i wanna play at high settings

heres my specs

xeon w3565 stock speeds
16 gigs ddr3 ram and a 800 watt 80+ bronze PSU

the games i play are doom 4 the witcher 3 and battle field 1 all at 1080p at 60FPS i want a 60fps constant in those games how well will this card play these games at 1080p

I got my R9 270 for 80$ a few months ago, If you cant find a 380 thats not about the same price as that 280x then i would just take that 280x, Its an awesome card :)

I run BF1 maxed out@1080p/60fps (Campaign)with a 7970 OC'ed, Doom 4 (Vulkan) as well, with Texture cache on nothc down from max.

Witcher 3, +/-50 fps with Shadows on medium and Hair stuff off, FXAA and everythjing else maxed out.

I'd say yes, its well worth for 60 bucks!

It scores 11000 graphic score on 3dmark FS.

I would go with the 380 just to play it safe.

THe 7970 is faster than the 380 in most titles. ANd the 280x is 10%faster than the 7970...

i have a feeling the 280x wont be any better then my current 960 2giger

I would go with a RX 460, can flash it for even more performance about avg 5 fps more. But I would stay over 3-4gb GDDR5 in memory of possible.

It won't matter if you are stock at 2gb memory. Most games uses over 4GB now. Why I never picked up a fury.

Not@1080p.

3GB are sufficient. And the 460 is a dog compared to a 960 or a 280x.

BTW, the Fury has HBM, and the high bandwidth compensate with the lack of memory...

EDIT: OP, VRAM usage for BF1@1080p:

And Doom Vulkan benchmark:

And BF ;) :

9-20% free in total performance and RX 460 will handle textures and well in general be lower latency than 280x making it a smoother option. I am just providing some info not having a GPU war. Just keep in my FPS not everything and the card will handle modern games better.

And there is a 470 unlock that is were I would go if giving the option. Good luck OP.

OP asks for BF1 and doom@108p.

Not a war at all, just linking benchmarks for those titles at this resolution.

In this case, the 280x is a much better choice.

VRAM for texture is cool, but if there is not enough horsepower to display them, it is not really worth it, right? ;)

I agree my friend I noticed at the price he is picking it up the 280X is a steal indeed. True make sense what you are saying.

I've got a gtx 770 2gb hanging around collecting dust. I could maybe interest you in it? :)

Ran everything I threw at it with a minimum of 40 fps average on max settings for 1080P. Rocket league was locked at 60fps flat, and it only struggled with titles like Star Citizen(max settings) and Black Desert(Mid playable 40's)

Unsure how well it would handle BF1/Doom, never played them.

Check the classifieds out on the forum, there are a ton of really good deals on there as well.

PS. Is advertising my 770 here against forum rules?

And its worse than both the 960 and the 280x...Sadly.

People seem to be low balling the 280. My 7970 GHZ in crossfire, when games didn't support (single card) pulled 80+ FPS in doom at 1440p. I have two if you wanna buy them :p But i bought a 1080 and honestly kick myself as my 7970 crossfire was pretty close in games that scaled.
