I'm online with the home PC via wifi from mom's house down the block -- computer updating is going to take a long time at this speed, but I might be able to get back to folding (after I put in the new Intel SSD6).

Had to stop at 2am, still couldn't get the SSD working correctly -- it shows in UEFI but drive mgr isn't loading all the way and its super slow. I thought I turned on all the relevant NVMe and m.2 options. I'll disable the x4 pcie slot, toss in the latest bios, and see how it looks.
