I know. It seems like bleakwise want's to see what these can do if you limit some cores for better performance on less cores. I don't think he understands its not a heat/power thing, its more of a voltage becoming too great and degrading the silicone.
 
yes.. definitely voltage. even 1.5v cannot boot 4.2 GHz for me, 4.1 is like a solid wall. seems like I'd need 1.55v+ and unfortunately without LN2 not possible for me.
 
I have no big issues with booting at 4.2GHz on even cheaper B350 motherboard. Problem is to stabilize it. My 1700X gives up above 3.95GHz in stability tests and above 4.07GHz in benchmarks ( sometimes even lower ). That's on probably the best air cooler for AM4, Noctua D15.
