My buddy who runs a youtube channel with me (as well as works on his own doing video production stuff, small scale nothing huge) has over the years built up a rather large collection of raw footage and completed edits. It appears hes footage hoarder. So he asked me about multi-drive docks to turn several HDDs into one big storage pool basically. The only solutions I was aware of for that were rather expensive, but then I did a little research and found some stuff. Do you guys have any feedback/suggestions? Unfortunately, my buddy isn't on the big bucks side of things so we still have to keep the costs down.

So I found those and they appear to be raid enabled. The most interesting one to me is the mediasonic ProRaid HFR2-SU3S2 4 bay unit for $149. Decent price, good reviews. I suppose the ORICO 5 bay unit for $165 is also worth considering. Thoughts? Thanks!

I only looked at the first link and I know it is not what you specifically asked for but... In that price range you can get 5+ TB Usb 3/3.1 enclosures. Unless your HDD are large capacity (read 5+ TB) then you wont really gain anything with the enclosures you are looking at. My. 02

I went with this one, and it works pretty well:
ProBox

Ah i didnt see that one. Its like the amazon ones i posted above. With multiple drives in it, does windows see each individual drive when this unit is plugged into your PC or does it see one large storage pool?
I was thinking a box that can just take multiple drives might be an alright way to go providing everything can go through one cable like that one, and then just use windows 10 storage spaces to turn the multiple drives into one large pool.

It has several options. You can make it see them individually or as one large pool. It supports several Raid options as well. I've been running it for a few months straight and it's running like a champ still.
