1) If you only have one drive, connect the blue end to mobo, and the OTHER end to the drive.....leaving the (gray) middle connector unused. Master is always the last drive on the chain.

2) No matter what you do now...hard drive, processor, mem....in 6 months they'll have faster and/or greater out......your decision.
