2 Extremes

2 Extremes

One Extreme
Gigabyte GA-EP45T-EXTREME
to the other
Gigabyte GA-EP45-EXTREME

I've been running the DDR2 (non T) for a while , but having got a new set of cellshock back from RMA decided to try the DDR3 version.
I'm surprised to see the differences between the 2 boards. In particular the omission of CPU GTLref altogether seems weird.

Anyone any takes on why ??

At the moment, though it's great having the extra speed of the DDR3 , the DDR2 board is ahead due to the extra voltage options in bios. Think if your running a quad in particular having dual channel CPU GTLref is a plus.

Have you tried hitting the F1+Ctrl in the BIOS?

This enabled my GTLREF options.

Yes I tried that 1st thing  , had the X48T It's just not there.
It's pretty daft really the GigaByte GA-EP45T-DS3R at least has a single channel GTLref :-
The voltage pic is the 4th one from top.

This is the Extreme (with [F1] & [CTRL] )

Now the EP45T-DS3R is half the £ of the Extreme

Hey Supershanks,

I've got the same picture

Myself, I didn't think much of the DDR2 board. I find the DDR3 board to have a more stable bios (best so far for me is F3e) over the DDR2.

You'll also find GTLref isn't really needed on this board.

I don't want to post what I have right now, but lets just say this thing can really clock a quad.

That's what I was wondering, I'm on wolfdales at the minute, so far, as I said I've just needed an extra bit of mch , my main thought was how the board would handle a quad. I know in the past finding a sweet spot for GTL can make all the difference.

F4B - New Bios Features

Looks like they must have been working on the GTLrefs as they've turned up in the new bios:-
F4B - New Features Flashing was a bit hairy, bios recovery worked with the help of aprod from a screwdriver
