Windows 7 Beta Key Repeats?

Anyone else have serials from today starting like this:

Windows 7 Beta 1 32-bit
4HJRK-X6Q28
GG4MQ-MGK72
TQ32R-WFBDM
QXV7B-K78W2
6JKV2-QPB8H

Windows 7 Beta 1 64-bit
7XRCQ-RPY28
482XP-6J9WR
D9RHV-JG8XC
RFFTV-J6K7W
JYDV8-H8VXG

I compared with a friend of mine, and it seems that today they are just cycling a set of 5 keys...

The keys from yesterday seem OK.

If you get to the part where it gives you your key and you hit refresh, you'll cycle through the 5 keys.... Anyone try to activate with these yet?

At least the keys from yesterday were unique keys.... I was able to activate my install yesterday.

I dunno... maybe Microsoft ran out of the 2.5 mil and is now just giving out these 5 keys to please everyone?

I discovered this too...only mine recycled through 3 different keys and they all match the starts of the ones you posted.

So my guess is that they are just using the same few keys for the beta. I imagine it doesn't really matter to them since it's an open beta.

Except that the keys they gave yesterday were all unique keys...

And I'm not sure how they track who is submitting what Feedback/Error Reports if everyone is using the same key. Windows 7 wouldn't allow me to Send Feedback until I activated it with a valid key.

My 32 bit starts with

FCH2H

and my 64 bit starts with

77BBF

SO far I don't think I have seen anyone with a similar key.

Did you get those keys yesterday or today?

Yesterday, I got a key (32bit and 64bit). Hitting refresh brings up the same key again. The key is unique and doesn't match any others (as far as I know).

Today, when I got a key (32bit or 64bit), it was one of the 5 keys listed in Post 1. Hitting refresh randomly selects 1 of the 5 keys. Hitting refresh enough times will give you all 5 keys.

Perhaps they already dished out their 2.5 mil unique keys and are now giving out these shared keys to anyone else that wants to give win7 a try?

Yes, I activated a matching 32 bit key just a few hours ago.

As a final recap:

YES: All 5 Keys work. All five keys are from Microsoft.

NO: It really doesn't matter if your key is "unique" or not. It's just a beta. None of these keys will work for the full version.

All 5 keys for 32bit and for 64bit work, plus all of the unique keys I got yesterday work too.

I would post the full keys here, but I'm not sure if that's a violation of the rules. To get them you can just log in to the beta program.

Does the key even matter?
I didn't have my handy when I installed...it installed fine without it.

When I booted it asked if I wanted to install a key in order to enable to reporting features.
It didn't make it should like it was required or "unlocked" anything other than the reporting.

No, all keys from TODAY are the EXACT SAME. Google the keys and you WILL get hits. I'd post the keys but I am not sure if that is against the forum rules.

The keys from yesterday are unique and associated with a specific Windows Live Acct. 1 32bit and 1 64bit key per account.

it seems MS has said "who cares" lets let as many people use Windows 7 and get the hype out now and ride off that.. as said, it is a beta.. they can deactivate it at the puch of a button and make all keys invalid anyways, so let anyone try the beta, in 90 days, or 30 or what ever they decide kill it and off they go.

Now the question becomes how many activations will MS allow? 2.5M? or could they simply stop new activations after a certain time period?

My keys from yesterday AND today are all on the list in the first post.
This includes keys from the creative workarounds, and keys done using the official method thru the Microsoft Partner portal.

UPDATE FROM MICROSOFT:

I know many of you have had issues with the Windows 7 Beta site over the last 24 hours. As you may have noticed the download site has been up and running smoothly since this morning. That said, we apologize for the inconvenience that it caused some of you.

Due to an enormous surge in demand, the download experience was not ideal so we listened and took the necessary steps to ensure a good experience. We have clearly heard that many of you want to check out the Windows 7 Beta and, as a result, we have decided remove the initial 2.5 million limit on the public beta for the next two weeks (thru January 24th). During that time you will have access to the beta even if the download number exceeds the 2.5 million unit limit.

Thank you for your enthusiasm, interest and willingness to beta test. It has been great to see the positive early reviews and feedback. As you know, this is a beta product. We are working hard to get Windows 7 ready and right. Your input is a critical part of that process. Thank you!
