Hi everyone, I have been looking around for this answer for awhile. I currently have a nvidea 260 gtx (not OC version) and I actually need a bit more in the way of graphics. I do not want to spend a whole bunch of cash. I can buy another 260 OC which is sli-able with my card. (I know it will run the OC card slower, but I don't care.) For a mere 200$ off a friend. Now, my question is if I sli these 2 cards will it be faster than a single 5870? I know if i buy the 5870 card it will be less power and less heat, and easier upgrade and have directx 11. but honestly none of that matters to me.I I have 1200 watt ps and a HAF case so power /cooling shouldn't be an issue.Plus i don't OC my gpu ever. The 5870 will cost me an extra 250$ irealize its more upgradeable, but I really do not want to spend that amount unless i have to... would the sli-260 be as good or close to equal?

My friedn's system: CPU i5 750 and MB GA-P55-UD6. His Gigabyte's 5870 which score of 3D vantage is that P16210 / X8093.More, as my opion, 260SLI just like one 295. So 295 almost equal to 5870, but I would like to have a 5870 than SLI 260.Why? Because it's not so complicated to sli and 5870 gets lower temperature. |

A GTX295 is SLI GTX275's not GTX260's. My point is, you can sell your GTX260 and save that $200 and buy a Radeon 5850. A GTX285 is pretty sweet too if your dedicated to nVidia, but they are $80 more expensive than the ATI HD5850 and they perform the same. The GTX260 SLI is similar to an ATI 4870 Xfire, maybe a little faster. They are pretty much equals give/take a few points here and there. 4870 Xfire is either faster, slower, or as fast as a 5850/5870. I'd say its about equal to sli two 260's vs a single 5850/5870. The problem is $200 for a GTX260 seems very expensive when you can buy a ATI HD5850 brand new for $299.00

Meh... SLI/Crossfire. Single 5870 hands down.

Well he has concerns about money. Thats why I pointed out two 260's would be very similar to a single 5850. I also pointed out that buying a GTX260 for $200 is crazy when he can get a brand new 5850 for $299. Save that $200 you have, sell your GTX260 for as much as you can (probably $100~$120) and snatch a ATI HD5850 ;-) Have a look and decide for yourself... ![]()

Benches aside.... Mayotruck... your computer seems overall pretty decent. In fact it looks as though you bought it without much concern for budget. For example... a 1200 Watt supply? Vista Ultimate? Velociraptor??? Why now all of a sudden are you making budget decisions over the most important part of your computer... the video... many experienced people here disagree with your plan. It seems to me your turning your back on newer, better, DX11 technology, that along with your i7 will carry you through likely the next 4 years... maybe more. I think your friends asking price of $200 is too high for a used GTX 260. If your planning on spending $200 on a used card then that means you think your current card is also worth $200. So sell your card now for $200 and now your even point is a $400 budget. Your likely less than $100 now away from a 5870. That extra $100 will show itself over the next 5 years as a smart decision. If you don't do this then I bet you will be posting again maybe 16 months from now telling us you have 2 gtx 260's and asking if you should buy your friends one for maybe $150 to make a tri-SLI config. Reality to me is that DX 11 is coming and you have a gaming system. If your not playing games anymore than the best decision is to sell the entire comp and start over. Because if not there will be a time when you want to unload all your GTX 260's and no one will want them. |

gfx is not the most important.. imo psu is way more important than gfx +1 to single 5870.. single is much easier to deal with than sli/crossfire x most of the time the gains in SLI aren't seen as much on smaller resolutions, so unless you are also upping your screen to something huge, the sli will be more of a waste of cash than you think
