Overclockers.com Benching Team SuperPi Competition!

The OCForums Benching Team cordially invites you to our first annual Overclockers.com SuperPi 1M and 32M competition. This competition is open to anyone who is a member of the Overclockers.com forums.*Signing up is very easy, just head over here to register!

• Corsair has provided a modular, 750W beast of a power supply, the HX750W.
• Lamptron has provided three very nice prize packs:
  • Their top-of-the-line FC-5 fan controller and an Evo-G IMP1 illuminated mouse pad.
  • A black/blue 5v-off-12v Fan-Atic five port switch fan controller and an Evo-G MP1 gaming mouse pad.
  • An Evo-G MP3 mouse pad and an Evo-G Mouse Anchor.

The power supply is going to be given away in a random drawing of all participants...all you have to do is enter and submit a result to be eligible for the drawing!

Scoring and Winning Prizes

There will be two competitions running simultaneously with each other, one with SuperPi 1M and the other with SuperPi 32M. The goal is rather simple - to achieve the fastest time in either or both benchmarks.

The person with the best score in each bench per class will receive 10 points. Each place below that will receive one less point, down to the 10th fastest time receiving one point.

i.e. If you get the best score in the i3/i5/i7 class for SP1M and the fifth best score in SP32M, you'd receive 10 + 6 points, respectively, for a total of 16 points.

Whoever's point totals add up to the most wins!

Obviously there is the potential for tying. In the event of a tie, those with the highest point total will have their names drawn for the winnings. If three or more people tie for the highest total, the prizes will all be done by drawing....but the pool will be a whole lot smaller than that for the PSU, so by winning, even if you tie, your chances of getting a prize increase exponentially.

You may enter more than one system if you would like. Only your best two scores will be used, so you can't enter three systems and take first by adding all of your scores together.

The Classes
There will be three classes for this event, based upon CPU type.

• i3/i5/i7 CPUs. Both socket 1156 and socket1366 will be included in this class.
• Core2Duo / Core2Quad socket 775 CPUs.
• AMD CPUs.
• The Slacker Class (run any cooling and any CPU...beat the heck out of it and see what you get! This class is not eligible for prizes.)

The Rules

• Any CPU can be used with the exception of Gulftown chips.
• Cooling is limited to ambient temperature air and water only. No chilled water, dry ice, LN2, liquid helium, single stage/phase change, or cascade cooling is allowed on any of the components (including the Northbridge and RAM).
• The contest will run for two weeks from Monday, April 12, 2010 at 12:00am EST until Sunday, April 25th at 11:59pm EST. All scores must be submitted during that time; no late or early entries will be accepted.

Scores will be submitted using HWBot's competition engine. To use it, you'll need a HWBot account. If you don't have one, it's easy to sign up for an acount here. Once you've signed up and logged in, you'll see a "Submit Score" link under "Identification" in the left hand column.

To enter your score for this competition once it starts, you'll click on Submit Score and select the competition from the list that shows up. It will look like this (but with this competition showing and active):


You'll then click "Next" and enter the information requested. Benchmark entries should be adherent to HWBot Super Pi submission rules, which can be found here. Here are a couple notes to help you along the way. Please note: HWBot will require a photo of your system included with your score.

• Screenshots must have two (2) instances of CPUz, one with the CPU tab and one with the Memory tab and of course the completed Super Pi run (before clicking "Ok").
• In order to verify your benches are run within the specified time period, we will be supplying a custom background for you to use on the date the competition starts. No timestamps are needed, just change your background to the supplied image and go to town benching!
• Below is a sample screenshot (coretemp & timestamp optional; that is also not the background that will be used.)

• The benching team leaders (Brolloks and*sno.lcn) have the right to inspect/and or invalidate suspicious or shady scores that would imply cheating. Cheating is defined as submitting any score with a screenshot missing any required component, that was run using a Gulftown CPU or subzero cooling, or a score that was achieved outside of the contest dates.

SuperPi Mod 1.5 will be used, and can be downloaded from here.

I cant wait for this! An in house contest! To bad I dont have my Q9650 anymore or I would have a chance at the 775 group (and with a quad!). A giant thumbs up on the sponsers and donations!!!

Hint..a 775 quad is not what you want to use , C2D is what will take the crown here in that category

HINT, I could sniff 5Ghz on ambient water... I would be up there. But I know a dual e8600 or 8500 could (should) beat me (I said chance - though its likely I am underestimating who will join this thing...).

I may dig out an X48 board and my 8500 and throw up a score just to see how I do. Of course it will be just for fun.

Time to pull out some old tricks. Question though, are the listed prizes available to each class?

Yup if I understand your question correctly, each class gets a prize pack.

Sorry, I guess that could be clearer. There are three prize packs total. One for the first, second and third highest point totals, regardless of class. It's all points and not class-based. The tie breaker drawings come when people have tied in points.

For instance, if someone is good enough to win first in both SP1M and SP32M in the i3/i5/i7 class, they would get 10 points for 1M and 10 points for 32M, totaling 20 points, the highest point total you can get.

Then someone else comes along and wins first in 1M in the skt775 class but second 32M for skt775. They would receive 10 points and 9 points, respectively, for a total of 19 points.

The person that has 20 points gets the first place prize pack and the person with 19 gets the second place prize pack.

If more than one person gets 20 points, there would be a drawing between them to determine which prize pack they get. i.e. If three people get 20 points, they will take all three prize packs. Which one will be determined by drawing.

Hope that clears it up a little bit. If not, I'm being convoluted and not explaining it properly. I'll happily try again. Sorry for any confusion.

Ok, I must not be enunciating the point clearly.

Every class has equal chances of winning the prizes. The top SuperPi 1M time and the top SuperPi 32M time from each class will receive 10 points.

If you win both 1M and 32M in the AMD class, you will receive 20 points, just like if someone else won both 1M and 32M in the i3/i5/i7 class would receive 20 points.

You would then be tied and a drawing would determine which of you received the 1st place prize pack and which received the 2nd place prize pack.

Sorry for complicating things - as Hokie explained it, seems very clear.

Yeah. I deleted it. I feel dumb.

Maybe next year Yellow could score some ram for the top 2-3 of the class some nice ram to have a Mini Comp for the top dawgs with the same ram =)
