Some Questions--Spending 3K+, want 2 CPUs, help Please :)!

I'm looking at spending around 2000/3000 on just the motherboard and CPU, I'm looking for 2 quad cores, or 2 six cores, and a good motherboard I can use 32GB+ ram with.

I'm really wanting to use two Intel Core i7-3930K 3.2's but I can't seem to find a motherboard that will support two.

just need some help with getting the best that I can afford Mobo+processors.

Thanks for helping guys!

I believe you can only use 2 x Xeon (E5 series) processors w/ the LGA-2011 dual-socket boards (Romley-EP).

So what would be the best processor I can get,

I want 12 cores more than 8 but not if the 8 core can out do the 12, !

The best?... 2 x Intel Xeon E5-2690's w/ 8-cores/16 threads at ~2000$ each.

That I can afford =p. I'm looking them all up right now, I like the 8 cores, but are there any processors that can support 2 of them?

Would you like your thread moved to the Intel Motherboards forum? If not, then I'll delete your other thread, as we don't allow cross-posting of identical threads in multiple forums here.

what are you using this for? seems like serious overkill. most apps/games will only use up to 4 cores; and unless you're seriously 24/7 using these, then I'd say it is overkill. plus i'm pretty sure you can't overclock the xeons, so what you buy is what you get.

I'm really just looking to build a beast computer. I'm looking at the 8 core Mac Pro as well, but I know I can build for so much cheaper. I really want 12 cores, but 8 would do. And I'm going to want to watercool them even if they are not overclocked.

From what I know most dual-CPU intel boards only take Xeon CPUs. I believe EVGA is working on an SR-3 classified that will do dual-CPU (same as their X58 version) but I would guess it would only do Xeons (like I said previously) as that is what the X58 one required.

From a quick scan of newegg it doesn't look like any exist yet (minus server boards that newegg may not/apparently does't carry)

Probably best here, since you're also asking for assistance in choosing a board, which AFAIK none have been released as of yet.

So there is no dual mobo that can support the new 8 cores?

Yep, dual CPU boards require Xeons for their dual QPI. You have to have CPUs with dual QPI because each CPU needs one QPI to "talk" to the other CPU and one to "talk" to everything else.

The downside is none of the current LGA2011 Xeon CPUs have unlocked multipliers or gear ratios.

So if I did not do the duel 4/6 cores is there anything better I can get that would do? I mean I could go with the 6 core. I just want a really good system and just thought that the 8/12 cores would be really good, but if I can get a single 6 core processor that would be the same as the 8 cores then I would get it.

Thanks man

Edit: How do you think 2x Intel Xeon E5645 Westmere-EP 2.4GHz would do? Compared to the Intel Core i7-3930K Sandy Bridge-E 3.2GHz (3.8GHz Turbo)
